Aura Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 I dunno what you guys are talking about, Chicago + winter = fun.
morphsci Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Try spending a winter or two in South Dakota. Makes Chicago seem absolutely balmy and windless.
grawk Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 For my money, lake winds in winter are the worst.
morphsci Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Then you haven't spent any time in SD. The wind is constant, and what is termed a gust elsewhere is considered a minor breeze there. Just thinking about it makes me want to put on a coat or three.
ojnihs Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Winters growing up in Minnesota were easily worse than any winter I experienced while I was in college in Chicago.
swt61 Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 It may not be colder on paper, but there's no wind in fairbanks Not to mention that Alaska is dry as ghost farts in the winter, and that amounts to just a surface type cold. It may sound unbearable when just considering temperature, but believe me a wet, windy cold is far worse IMO.
Dusty Chalk Posted September 30, 2009 Author Report Posted September 30, 2009 In my defense, I was "making fun", not "complaining". Yes, windy city is windy. And snowy and cold. But I also have many fond memories of the area (mostly Evanston).
swt61 Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 Cold of any kind sounds really good ATM. Alaskans are not supposed to endure these temps. We melt easily.

Augsburger Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 Try spending a winter or two in South Dakota. Makes Chicago seem absolutely balmy and windless. I spent a few days in Sioux Falls and you are right. But for an ex Hawaiian/Californian SD or Chicago off season, meaning any month other than October is nasty.

That must have been a serious crime. I would not call the weather in Chicago pleasant, hence we will be retiring significantly south of the the windy city.

humanflyz Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 As someone who grew up in southern California, this weather in Chicago is pretty cold to me. I thought I was somewhat acclimated to east coast weather when I worked last year in DC, but I guess not.
grawk Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 DC doesn't get cold. Chicago on the other hand, the wind and the wet, ugh.
jinp6301 Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series - Limited Edition Blu-ray 2009: Amazon.co.uk: DVD The page says
The Monkey Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 DC doesn't get cold. Chicago on the other hand, the wind and the wet, ugh. My sis-in-law went to college at U. of Chicago ("Where fun goes to die.") and then did med school in balmy Buffalo.
bhd812 Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 Chicago is not that bad, last Jan was though..i like teens in my bedroom but i don't like them in my forecast..last Jan there was way to many teen days
Aimless1 Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 First off, my condolences for being sentenced to a term in SD. That must have been a serious crime. Thought about going to school at North Dakota State. Then I figured out that they have real winters...not teasers like the Great Lake States. Not going there was one of the better decisions of m youth.

Sherwood Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 I love Rose. Bought it. I love you, watch websites.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 Are you (Dan) kidding? Rose gold is hawt. (Of course, it helps that I developed a taste for different golds selling jewelry in my youth -- I can still tell the difference between 14k, 18k, and 24K gold by sight.)
