Dusty Chalk Posted October 7, 2009 Author Report Posted October 7, 2009 Is that the radioactive symbol on there? And if so, why? Is that how it's powered?
grawk Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 That's for the tritium that makes the dial glow in the dark
The Monkey Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Yeah, the tritium makes me a little nervous.
grawk Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 The cancer on my wrist wasn't from the watch, you have nothing to fear
guzziguy Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 something people do before they have kids Isn't it more like this: something people do before they get married

mrarroyo Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Yeah, the tritium makes me a little nervous. Tritium has a half life of about 12.33 years, which means it looses half its energy every 12.33 years via beta decay (-e). Beta has more energy than alpha (which is heavier and can be stopped by a sheet of paper), thus tritium could penetrated deeper below the skin (although it is stopped by a few centimeters of wood). Unless both the glass dial and the glass receptacle on the markers break there should not be a need to worry. However you may wish to read more on the matter to appease your concern.
blessingx Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I kinda like the "U.S. Government Swiss Made."
morphsci Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Although tritium does produce a beta particle, it is a very low energy beta that has a very low probability of penetrating the dead layer of skin. The real danger with tritium is from internal damage due to ingestion or inhalation. The triated paint once dry poses little hazard.
luvdunhill Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I prefer the more subtile markings to the radioactive symbol, like those on my Tag:
guzziguy Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I kinda like the "U.S. Government Swiss Made." That's why we've been running a large deficit for so long. We bought Switzerland.

Dusty Chalk Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 I like the looks of that one; unfortunately, am unfamiliar with the name, "Android". Also, was going to parrot the "too bad it's a quartz" line, but have recently discovered -- they're all quartzes, in this price range. Including Invictas. What's wrong with Quartzes?
malldian Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 As did I. After a family member threw out my Citizen Eco Drive simple black leather strap guy (its something around 85 on Amazon now) I have been looking for a replacement that isn't to complicated looking.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 I agree with "too complicated looking". A lot of Invictas (including one I own) look too "busy" for my tastes.
blessingx Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Some of their designs are certainly robot-y.
boomana Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 If I saw someone coming toward me wearing that watch, I would know they had a serious personality disorder and run the other way.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 You really think you can judge a book by its cover?
