This seems like the right thread to ask so...

Can you pop an already formatted drive (used internally) into a BlacX and use it like you would if it were connected internally?

You could get 4 of these to go along with your new Drobo:

WD Caviar GP 1TB SATA 3Gbps HDD - dealmac.com

That's a 4TB Drobo (well, less when you factor in the redundancy...etc.) for less than $700.

I'm super pleased with the WD green drives. I was a little apprehensive, but they've proven to be at least as good as my seagates, and are even quieter and much cooler. :)

I would be so daring as to call these the perfect drives for the Drobo.

It's what Data Robotics bundles with their deals.

That's very tempting, but the California tax is killer! Guess I might just ship it to my apo address and stick out for the wait. Thanks for posting that :)

The X25-E most likely

Yeah, this is the slightly more expensive intel ssd :D

There is talk about SSDs falling in price soon, for various reasons. I know there is a new controller board in the works that is supposed to streamline costs, but it is from the same company that had a flawed board to begin with, which caused stuttering issues. I forget the exact name, something like J micron or some such.

These intel cards don't use that company, which I suppose accounts for the lavish costs.

I'm still tempted to wait for the next generation of intel ssds, since this is their first batch ever, and the tech will only get better.
