riceboy Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 Woot! I'm very happy for your Jack . I hope you have many, many hours of enjoyment with it. Thanks for the pics as well.
n_maher Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 Sweet Jack!!! Minute by minute impressions or BAN!
Knuckledragger Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 Wow. That thing is a beast. More like Rockcrusher.
Voltron Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 Grats Jack! I just spent some quality time with my Rockhopper Beta this weekend and was very happy. Enjoy!
Icarium Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Nice look. I admit your first beta22 build's look (Just a par metal case I think) turned me off, but this looks quite excellent... similar to the aesthetic of a headamp kgss dx imo.
jinp6301 Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 damn that thing looks like a rock! in a good way of course!
CD44hi Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Very good looking amp! Congrats! How does it sound and what cans are you using with it?
Beefy Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Oooooooh, amp porn. Give us a striptease - I want to see it nude!
postjack Posted June 17, 2008 Author Report Posted June 17, 2008 Right now I'm using an HD650 with Enigma Oracle cable. In a word, the amp sounds marvelous, easily exceeding my expectations. Smooth, detailed, powerful. Really brings out the sometimes hazy midrange of the HD650. Huge midrange, startlingly focused "center channel" (like the way vocals often are in the mix). One of the first things I thought upon hearing the amp is how amazing it would sound with a balanced HP2. Of course it helps I heard a balanced beta22 with a balanced HP2 at Canjam. I listened with my HF-1 single ended and it sounded great as well.
909 Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 congrats! looks fantastic and probably one of the best ss available. left/right volume pots... how many switch positions?
GPH Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Where's the orange on the amp? Other than that, sweet amp.
Dusty Chalk Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 I believe the LEDs are orange (or "is", not sure how many there are). I believe there's also orange on the inside.
postjack Posted June 17, 2008 Author Report Posted June 17, 2008 Where's the orange on the amp? Other than that, sweet amp. Dusty is correct, there is an orange LED on the power supply, which is on the shelf below the amp proper, and there is orange inside the amp as well. 909, they are 24 step DACTs.
Beefy Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 909, they are 24 step DACTs. What gain is the amp set at, if you don't mind me asking?
Contrastique Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Wow, that looks really good! Nice to see a black one for a change as well. Enjoy!!!
JBLoudG20 Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Nice to see a black one for a change as well. Enjoy!!! Take your pick: <insert Aerius comment here> <theoffice>That's what she said</theoffice>
postjack Posted June 17, 2008 Author Report Posted June 17, 2008 What gain is the amp set at, if you don't mind me asking? Good question, thats something I wanted to touch on. Its set for a gain of 2/4. I was worried this wouldn't be enough to power higher impedance phones like Senns, but with my HD650 it gives me plenty of volume swing. Only a crazy person would max out the volume knob on Senns with this gain. I imagine with a power hungry phone like the K340 one would want to step up the gain to the next level, but for my purposes 2/4 is perfect.
