tkam Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 (edited) Well my Northstar M192 MKII arrived today, took a little while to start using it though as I was having problems with my Squeezebox. So for now I'm using it with the EMU 0404 USB via foobar and ASIO output. I'm using the rca outputs till my new balanced cables from Nate arrive . I'll post pics later but here's some early impressions: detail retrival is goodresolution and extension are very goodtonality seems pretty accuratesoundstage (especially depth) are excellent That's about it for now I'll add more as time goes on. Hi-rez pics here 1280x1024 pics are attached below Edited June 13, 2008 by tkam Quote
n_maher Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 tkam the balanced cables are on the way! Quote
deepak Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Or does it look the same as the MK1. And if you get a chance could you try the 840c as a transport to the M192 to see if the North Star sounds better? Or see if that reviewer really was smoking the good stuff. Quote
guzziguy Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 tkam the balanced cables are on the way! Are these models from your new Elite line? Quote
tkam Posted June 5, 2008 Author Report Posted June 5, 2008 Or does it look the same as the MK1. It's pretty much the same case and faceplate it's really only the internals that are different. Quote
morphsci Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Very nice. I too would be very interested in a comparison of the 840c as CDP vs. as transport to the Northstar. and just to Quote
deepak Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 It's on my to-do list for tomorrow So you got the Jeff Rowland-esque faceplate Quote
tkam Posted June 5, 2008 Author Report Posted June 5, 2008 well I went with black which doesn't have the texture that the silver did/does Quote
riceboy Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Or does it look the same as the MK1. And if you get a chance could you try the 840c as a transport to the M192 to see if the North Star sounds better? Or see if that reviewer really was smoking the good stuff. Good suggestion Deepak. I would be interested as well since I do have a 840c as well . Glad your new toy arrived Quote
n_maher Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Are these models from your new Elite line? Heh, it is actually the first set of balanced cables that I've built using this particular wire. Quote
Augsburger Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 I think you need to start naming each model of cables within your line. These should be called the Un (balanced) Vince (Vaughn) ©ables . UnVinceables. Ok, perhaps I should go back to work. Quote
guzziguy Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 I like SUCKITALO better. Yes, but don't forget about his new line, the "Elite". It's the same as the SUCKITALO but costs 5 times as much. It's for the people that irritate him! Quote
deepak Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Is being able to click "next" and 'back" when viewing the pictures a new addition? It's a really nice one Looking great in all black. Quote
tkam Posted June 7, 2008 Author Report Posted June 7, 2008 yep it was added in the latest version of the mod Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Jesus Zombie Christ, that's a lot of parts. What is it, a ladder DAC? Quote
tkam Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 Balanced cables from Nate arrived today (thanks again nate ) and the m192 mkII does sound a good bit better balanced vs single-ended. Channel separation is greatly improved and the bit of treble glare that was present single-ended is gone. Quote
purk Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Nice!! Any comparison against your trusty 840C? Quote
tkam Posted June 13, 2008 Author Report Posted June 13, 2008 I haven't had a chance to compare them yet, they're on different floors of the house so it's a bit of an ordeal . Quote
