JBLoudG20 Posted June 9, 2008 Author Report Posted June 9, 2008 Wow. I'm for a young person I'm hopelessly out of touch / uninterested in much of today's music. Today in the sociological sense. Out of that list, I'm only interested in the N.E.R.D. album, myself.

postjack Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 damn new priest. Anyone know if Rob Halford can still sing?
postjack Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 pfft. Listen to the song "painkiller" and tell me he can't wail.
Dusty Chalk Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 Could he ever? Yes. He was one of the greatest rock-and-roll screamers in the history of rock-and-roll screaming. Listen to the entire Sin After Sin, Sad Wings of Destiny, and Hell Bent for Leather albums -- the guy had range. And in answer to the original question, no, I don't know. Will let you know if I found out first.
aardvark baguette Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 Maiden > Priest. But yes he could wail. New Notwist...anyone ever hear anything other than Neon Golden? That seems to be a headcase favorite.
Dusty Chalk Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 (edited) Yeah, I have their entire catalog. IMHO, it's not as good as Neon Golden, but I'm still getting it. My "golden line" is 12, Shrink and Neon Golden. The first two albums (Nook and the self-titled album) are much harder and, IMHO, not worth getting unless you're into garage and heavy metal. Make sure you hear them before you buy.Maiden > Priest.Incorrect. FYI: the new Hiromi, Beyond Standard came out last week as well. Edited June 16, 2008 by Dusty Chalk
en480c4 Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 Maiden > Priest. I would have to agree. Priest has never done anything for me at all. Maiden, on the other hand...
aardvark baguette Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 Incorrect. The Ripper (Priest) You're in for surprise You're in for a shock In London town streets When there's darkness and fog When you least expect me And you turn your back I'll attack 2 Minutes 2 Midnight (Maiden) Kill for gain or shoot to maim But we don't need a reason To Golden Goose is on the loose And never out of season Some blackened pride still burns inside This shell of bloody treason Here's my gun for a barrel of fun For the love of living death The above illustrates why I prefer Maiden. While neither band even approaches bad, I find Maiden to be a little more cerebral, or 'thinking man's metal' than Priest. I can see why people would prefer Priest for the exact opposite reason, arguing that it makes the song more universal to have a simpler message. But I enjoy the mystical/mythical/fantastic elements to Maiden songs. Its been a long time since I listened to a Priest album, but I cant think of anything of theirs that could compare to something like Alexander The Great, for example. In short, Maiden = Epic. All IMHO
Dusty Chalk Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 (edited) I've never paid much attention to lyrics. So: pfff. That said, if you want literate lyrics in a hard rock or metal band: Blue Edited June 16, 2008 by Dusty Chalk
