JBLoudG20 Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 My dog weighs 12 pounds, and isn't too fond of the frigid cold. She loves eating snowmen, though.
Hopstretch Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Went down to the local ADESA lot to see if there was anything nice worth trying to steal at the monthly BMW lease-return auction tomorrow. There was not. Good lord people treat their cars like crap.
Augsburger Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 i've never seen weather much colder than -54 Well I guess "cold" is relative. I remember in highschool I moved from Honolulu (73 degrees) to Chicago in late January (negative 32 degrees). A one hundred and five degree temperature change in one week. At least up north you have months to acclimate to the big chill.
aardvark baguette Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Not in a pizza kitchen straight to the freezer in the summer

Pars Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 The coldest I remember is -27F... then there was the wind (20 mph+). Made walking 1/4 mile west across campus a real treat. I guess it did get down to -34F when I was 8, but I don't remember that.
Aura Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 I've lived in Illinois all my life, the coldest I remember was roughly -50 F with windchill factored in. It's very rare for us to dip that low though; between -10 and -30 w/ windchill is usually as cold as it will get all winter.
Chekhonte Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 I grew up in central IL from 76 to 1997. I remember, some time in the late 80's it getting frighteningly cold temperatures. So cold that if you splashed a cup of cold tap water in a high arc it would be frozen or slushy by the time it hit the ground.
Pars Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 I grew up in NE Iowa. I do remember the first or second year that my wife and I lived in Chicago of driving back to my parents house on Christmas Eve with it around -25F air temp out. Semis stalled on the interstates from the fuel gelling... was a bit scary thinking about the car quitting out there around eleven or midnight, but it was relatively new so no problems. I wouldn't have done that if we had the kids at that time.
Iron_Dreamer Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Installed Vista 64-bit on my main computer, and boy is it a nice little speed upgrade from XP Pro 32-bit. After doing a bit of work and watching most of the WS Game 2, I've been pounding away processing photos from my trip earlier this week.
bperboy Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Put together mouser plus Beezar orders for two minimax amps... plus a BantamDAC! w00t for new projects!
Salt Peanuts Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Went for a much overdue eye exam. While there, got fitted for contact lenses as well. Now I get to see how I fare with them over the next week or two.
n_maher Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Tried unsuccessfully to fix my Twisted Pear Bipolar Power Supply.
Pars Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Tried unsuccessfully to fix my Twisted Pear Bipolar Power Supply. What!!!! Get back to work!
Aura Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Band today, band tomorrow, band the day after tomorrow... Keeps me busy, that's for sure.
n_maher Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 What!!!! Get back to work! It's unclear what to try next. It appears as if the trimpot is not working, so I may try pulling that today if I have time.
grawk Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Got up at 6am, and drove 45 miles to my 6 yr old's hockey game. Got there, realized we didn't have his helmet, had to turn around.

It was indeed a faulty trimpot, weird. Not sure if I have a spare so we'll see if I can come up with the right resistor to set the appropriate output voltage.
Voltron Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Got up at 6am, and drove 45 miles to my 6 yr old's hockey game. Got there, realized we didn't have his helmet, had to turn around. Sucks It's unclear what to try next. It appears as if the trimpot is not working, so I may try pulling that today if I have time. Sucks Woke up tired, had some breakfast, got daughter ready to go to a Bat Mitzvah (last one of 6-7 over two years in her class), have a high school open house for her, and then she has the Bat Mitzvah party to attend tonight. Wife's sister's b-day this evening with her family coming over here for dessert. Somehow I will pay some attention to my son, my wife, my dog, and hopefully myself (time with the Luxman P-1 and world series later).
Hopstretch Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Went to a corporate children's party. Several dozen whipped- and worried-looking hedge fund guys, their (generally) hot and (regrettably) snotty wives and at least a hundred tow-headed brats all cooped up in a hotel ballroom with a troupe of acrobats and the scariest clowns in the known universe. And no booze. Kill me.
tyrion Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Picked up race packet for Marine Corp Marathon and checked out the Expo.
aardvark baguette Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Surfed the internet while my lamp was flickering. Started wondering what that god-awful stench was. Looked over at lamp, found found the CRL bulb was smoking. So thats what mercury smells like Hopefully it was just the fixture. If I stop posting next week, I guess we'll have our answer.
Voltron Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 Apparently my dog ate the entire tail end of one of those toys because when she got stuck mid-dump just now I had to help her out by pulling the rest of it out (with a plastic bag over my hand of course). Just to gross you all out more, she threw up a pair of my daughter's underwear in the middle of the last night. I guess there wasn't any more room for the undies.
