Had to leave Marc's house earlier than planned after getting the news that my Grandfather passed away this morning. I knew it was coming, but it's still a downer. He had 92 good years though, and was the best Grandfather a guy could ever hope to have.

i'm so sorry. i miss my Grandpas...

Sorry to hear that news, Steve.

I took the Little Monkey to his first Jets game. An absolutely horrid game with awful weather to go with it. Overall, a very appropriate introduction to being a Jets fan.

Thanks to all of you. It always makes me feel better venting to you guys and gals when something sad happens.

We had many, many great times together. He and my Grandmother would come to Alaska almost every other summer, for the whole summer. I also was fortunate enough to live with them while I attended my first two years of college. And I'm thankful that I moved to Texas, and was able to spend more time with them. He will be interned in the same vault as my Grandmother, and I know he was looking forward to that, as they were married for 67 years before her death in 2003, and he missed her terribly.

He walked to Texas after his family lost their Oklahoma farm in the dust bowl. He was 18 then, and fell in love with Texas from the start. He did not get far in school, but was a very savvy guy who was incredibly mechanically inclined. He kept the fruit packing equipment running all over the Rio Grande Valley, then later sold packing equipment all over Texas. He was also a well respected volunteer fireman, and later became the top man in the Rio Grande Valley's division of the Texas Highway Department, where he retired in 1984. He is survived and loved by three children, nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.

Sorry to hear, Steve. I didn't have very long with the one grandfather I knew (the other one was a psychotic drunkard who died when I was little and who I'd never met), but he died about 1.5 years ago and going to and playing at his funeral really unlocked something in me and I got hit pretty hard mentally for awhile.

Hope you have a successful surgery Jacob.

Very sad Steve my condolences to you and your family.

Jacob, sorry to hear this, I hope the surgery goes well and your recovery is swift.

I don't like the ATL airport I just slept in putting it mildly. The high is in the twenties at home, snowing here.

My tibia is pretty splintered, and the fibula came away from my knee some, so it's surgery.

Fuuuuuu that's horrible. I hope that booze is helping with the pain.

Steve, sorry for your loss. It sound like your grandfather had a full life and was loved by his family. It doesn't better than that.

Rex, damn! Good luck with the surgery. And to think you were just saying how you had had no time off from work this year. :palm:

Condolences Steve and thanks for sharing a bit of your grandfather's life.

Very sorry to hear about your accident Jacob. That sounds so awful and you sound so calm in your posts. Hang in there and good luck with surgery. Let us know how we can help during recovery.

Sounds like your grandfather had a wonderful life, Steve. Best wishes to you and your family.

Jacob, get better dude. Relax in post-op with a cigar. Somehow I doubt they'll let you do that. ;)

I'm very sorry for your loss Steve, my condolences to you and your family.

Jacob, that sucks and your description of the injuries sounds awful. I wish it's not surgery, but I'm afraid it will be. Get well. Best of lucks.
