swt61 Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Hey man don't joke about Ernie. Burt will get jealous and come kick your ass hardcore. So I wasn't the only one that got gay vibes from them?
Dusty Chalk Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 That's pretty much the original bromance.
jvlgato Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 So I wasn't the only one that got gay vibes from them? Oh gawd, no! We've watched lots of Sesame Street in the last few years, and Anne and I are always saying how progressive they were to have gay men on the show way back then.
jinp6301 Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 got yelled at by my bio professor for trying to do a presentation on a paper based on stochastic model of integrin mediated signaling. WHY WONT BIO CLASSES LET ME DO MATH PAPERS?!?!??!
Craig Sawyers Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 got yelled at by my bio professor for trying to do a presentation on a paper based on stochastic model of integrin mediated signaling. WHY WONT BIO CLASSES LET ME DO MATH PAPERS?!?!??! You prof needs a good kicking - he/she is clearly a bio-luddite. The bio-sciences have a strong statisitical element, so stochastic modelling is entirely a valid approach to data and meta-data analysis.
boomana Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 I have no idea what you guys are talking about, but because I like jin, I also vote for a good kicking for anyone who yells at him.
Salt Peanuts Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 if the posters the grad students in my department put up every quarter suggest anything, it's that bio-science is all statistics. When I went through university as a biochem major, I had to take a statistics class as part of major requirement. The first thing the professor told us (knowing it was all bio-science students) was to hire a statistician.
Salt Peanuts Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Perhaps bio-science grad students have some kind of arrangement with statistics grad students.
jinp6301 Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 I dont know much about other schools but bio grad students at my school know jack shit about mathematics and statistics, and you can tell by their level of statistical analysis on their research. My research focus (and most of what I know in general) is on bioinfomatics, modeling and machine learning so most of what I'm interested in concerning biology is somehow related to mathematics. But then again, this is a grad level intro to cell/molecular bio class so I shouldnt have assumed that I could present on whatever I wanted
Dusty Chalk Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 I have no idea what you guys are talking about, but because I like jin, I also vote for a good kicking for anyone who yells at him.The argument goes something like this: Prof: You're off topic! Jin: But everything reduces to mathses.
aardvark baguette Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 I dont know much about other schools but bio grad students at my school know jack shit about mathematics and statistics which one is the denominator again?
Voltron Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 which one is the denominator again? Bieber
Fitz Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Stayed in bed all day... still feel like shit.
morphsci Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) got yelled at by my bio professor for trying to do a presentation on a paper based on stochastic model of integrin mediated signaling. WHY WONT BIO CLASSES LET ME DO MATH PAPERS?!?!??! Your professor is a turd. Unfortunately, he has a lot of company in bio departments all over the world (professors, graduate students and post-docs) that somehow fail to understand that biology is not understandable using Deterministic models. cetoole Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Work, sashimi lunch, got randomly butt-dialed (no Steve, not that way!) by Screaming Oranges. Don't think he ever noticed, too busy talking to some woman.

Amen, brother!

Salt Peanuts Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Left work early to go to a dental appointment. Much to my amazement, I was actually seen at the scheduled time and the appointment lasted expected/scheduled duration (bit less, actually).
crappyjones123 Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Perhaps bio-science grad students have some kind of arrangement with statistics grad students. yeah...we do their homework because they dont know how to fucking find means or medians let alone meaningful statistics.
boomana Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Feel better Fitz. More wishes to feel better, Fitz.
