justin Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Fractured fibula which didn't show on the X-Rays but did on the MRI? Amazing... Anyway, great news, a bone fracture, or more likely a fissure if you don't need a cast, will solve more easily than any cartilage or ligaments damage. Congratulations Take care of yourself. this is why i was wondering why bother with the x-rays, skip straight to the MRI?
Salt Peanuts Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Glad to hear you tear anything, Al. As for what I did: Yet another practically wasted day at work.
Torpedo Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 You can't see very well the mineral bone on MRI scans, just the live cells, fat, water..., so to see bone fractures, X-Rays (that includes CT) are a better option. However a single projection X-Ray can miss very thin fissures, which is Al's case. They were able to see it because it's on the fibula head, which is rich in bone marrow.
jinp6301 Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 blackmailed my friend into sending me tea

Isn't getting X-rays also cheaper as a first line for diagnosis?
Duggeh Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Today I learned that soldering Lemo-00 connectors is irritating in extreme.
Hopstretch Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Pretty relieved but I have 6-8 weeks of little to no exercise. Presumably this will also give you time to file the personal-injury suit?
manaox2 Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Awesome news on the hopefully quick recovery to come, congrats.
swt61 Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Thanks guys. I am quite relieved. Ready for this weeks big game? Glad to hear the good news!
Aimless1 Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Thanks guys. I am quite relieved. Great news indeed! Glad it turned out this well.
morphsci Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Congrats on the good news Al. As for me: Today I fed my inner redneck at Cabela's in Hazelwood, MO.
deepak Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 (edited) Yep, I saw them side by side myself and you can see things on the MRI that your really cannot see on the x-ray. The x-ray was the next morning and the MRI was three days later, so the MRI shows the indication of the fracture as a small line either white when it should be dark or vice-versa. Anyway, the doc looked me over and scrutinized the scans and confirmed a fractured fibular head. No ligament damage, no surgery, no cast, and no physical therapy other than eventual stretching and such. Pretty relieved but I have 6-8 weeks of little to no exercise. Wait, now I have an excuse to do what I already do! Great news, x2 on the congratulatory it's not a torn ACL (or MCL groan) Isn't getting X-rays also cheaper as a first line for diagnosis? Everyone gets x-ray'ed anyway because it's cheap and legal reasons. Edited August 13, 2009 by deepak

Dreadhead Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Great news Al! I got up went to work out with my PT then I went to work. Which is where I am.
Frihed89 Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 I picked up a small consulting contract in Montenegro....i think. Never been there before. Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, yes, but never Montenegro.
laxx Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Got owned on the LIRR to work. I forgot my wallet that has my monthly pass, so I got ticketed for not having a pass or id. $14 one way ride even though I have a monthly pass and the MTA has a record of my purchase. =[
bperboy Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Gave a presentation to a mid-level manager about one of the material tracking tools I've been developing in my internship this summer. Went pretty well.. will be giving similar presentation to upper-level administrator next week.

Hopstretch Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Played golf for the first time in a year or so. Estimated I'd score 100 and ended up with 89. My friend the actual member of the country club said he'd shoot 90 in his sleep and carded a 102. Ha ha. Probably the last invite I get, though.
Augsburger Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Worked, bought Asia ex-Japan, returned a pair of Meridian 5500s then listened to Kind of Blue then some Blue Note Music Matters vinyl on a Clear Audio Statement, EAR monoblock Magico M5 system. Bought 19 of said Blue Note Music Matters vinyl and a case of cheap Bordeaux. All in all a good day so far.
