Dusty Chalk Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 funny you ask because i have plans in the works to hear one within the next few weeks.I thought you were done with sources? Quote
909 Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 hopefully, i am done (as done can be in this hobby) with my digital source as i have no desire to change or upgrade the Reimyo. my friend is looking to buy a Reimyo CDP-777 after hearing the Meridian 808.2, CDSA, X-01 Limited, and CX5. The CDP777 has been discounted and only available on the used market, though, none have been listing on Audiogon within the last two to three months. he posted a WTB ad on Audiogon and a NY dealer that has not only the CDP-777, but also the CD77 contacted him and suggested he hear the CD-77. Apparently, there is a dealer about 15 miles from my house so within the next few weeks i should have an opinion on it. Quote
Rob N Posted May 24, 2008 Author Report Posted May 24, 2008 Haven't yet heard the CD77 but I'm trryin this at the moment:- Quote
Rob N Posted May 24, 2008 Author Report Posted May 24, 2008 The Ensemble has a more detailed sound than my other players (Marantz CD12 & MF TriVista) but doesn't appear to have any glare or harshness. The bass depth is very good and more controlled than the MF Trivista which sound a bit 'boomy' by comparison. Still haven't listened enough to come to any definite opinions yet. Quote

Rob N Posted June 4, 2008 Author Report Posted June 4, 2008 I now have the AMR CD77 for home demo Quote
Rob N Posted June 7, 2008 Author Report Posted June 7, 2008 I'll also mention my listening comparisons to my Marantz CD12.I have been using PS1 phones and SDS-XLR amp hooked up to a PS Audio P600 power plant. The Ensemble in direct comparison to the Marantz does initially impress but it's too detailed and dry sounding for me (if you had alot of very well recoded CD's than it might be a different story). They both have similar sound stages but the Ensemble sounds a little thin and although the Marantz bass is not as well controlled it sounds 'fuller' and much easier to listen to for long periods, more 'natural' you might say. I really like the Digimaster 1 setting on the AMR,the no filter option. It sounds very good more like the CD12 than the Ensemble. It has a 'fuller' sound with a deeper bass than the CD12 but slightly more detailed. It is quite laidback in it's overall presentation which I imagine some would not like.I can listen to AMR for long periods without fatigue. It does require a good half hour warm before listening. The AMR CD77 Quote
Fing Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 Thanks for the review Rob - I was interested in the AMR at one point, mostly due to Thorsten's involvement with it. Quote
Rob N Posted June 9, 2008 Author Report Posted June 9, 2008 Even though I've only used Digital Master 1 & 2 for any length of time,I pretty much decided to go for it.The AMR in the UK is Quote
