faust3d Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 I got my T50 on ebay from seller named audio-topia with 30% LiveCashback. Wualta got his from him as well it's the last version with "good" pads and bass. Faust2D floating in 3D space.
deepak Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 :-0 looks good Smeggy Got my Fostex T20's (thanks Deepak), they are awesome. Glad you like them. I might have to revisit Faustexen when I have an amp that can drive low Z phones.
Smeggy Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 The 40 seems to go very nicely even from my Rio Karma DAP. The 30 and 50 prefer more juice, though I have used both outdoors with the Karma. One day when I have the cash I'll get a 50RP to play with. The driver looks nice from a technical and design standpoint so I don't see why it shouldn't sound good too. What are they, $70-80? I should be able to swing that one day.
mypasswordis Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 It's good to confirm the fault of the stock T40's bass roll-off is due to something other than the driver. I like the assortment of Stax parts used.

I like the assortment of Stax parts used. Yeah, not as much bass as the bigger 30 and 50 drivers but still very nice down to an audible 25 and vibrational 20. You just need a good seal with little airspace.
diebenkorn Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 Anybody know where to get replacement T20 pads or have any suggestion for other pads?
Smeggy Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Cheers In other news, I just managed to completely break my Yammy YH-2 drivers so they're headed for the bin. Now I'm back to having no Yams again. I think I'll try for a 3 next time unless a really cheap 100 comes along.

Smeggy Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 That stinks, how did it happen? Me being an impatient dick . Instead of gently removing the drivers carefully from their current housings I decided to just pry them out and snapped the magnets. It's right up there with turning down the Fostex baffle on a lathe... with the driver still attached. I do tend to put my stuff through the wringer.
deepak Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 If I had any alcohol in the house I'd pour one for your lost ortho
Smeggy Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 It sacrificed it's life for the greater ortho good. I've prepared a state funeral for it and wualta will read the eulogy. A few must be sacrificed so the many may prosper.
wualta Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 [appears floating overhead, making the sign of the cross, the circle and the three wavy lines] OMG, like, requiem
Kabeer Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Hey, if the magnets have cracked I guess we can now see the insides of a Yamaha driver?
Duggeh Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem. Or there abouts. Less force more caution in future Smegster.
deepak Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 Less fail, more win in the future That is the Head-Case way
Kabeer Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 Hey guys, does anyone have any Stax electret, SR-X, or Realistic Pro 30 style pads spare? I would like to buy a pair for a SFI style creation . Thanks.
spritzer Posted December 30, 2008 Author Report Posted December 30, 2008 I have some new SR-X pads that I can sell you at less then what AC is asking for them.
Kabeer Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I have some new SR-X pads that I can sell you at less then what AC is asking for them. PM sent, v.interested.
Smeggy Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Coolies, nice going Kabeer Spritzer, if you have any more spare I might need to take them off your hands later.
Guest sacd lover Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 You guys need to try the Fostex T50RP with the new earpads. This headphone is excellent pure stock. Fostex RP T50RP - headphones - Ear-cup, Binaural
Smeggy Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 It seems there's going to be a spurt on these, soon there will be four or five of us with them. Could be the start of something special. It'd be funny to think of all the potential sales they lost due to nothing more than shitty pads on an otherwise great headphone. Relatively speaking, cheap as shit too when you think for that money you can only get a lowly Grado SR-60 (blech!) and most other phones under $100 suck donkey balls. They may turn out to be the killer deal of the century and possibly better than most other orthos too. It'd be nice not having to scour ebay et al and scrap it out with everyone else to get a good ortho for a decent price.
Fungi Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Are these earpads new or old? http://www.geocities.jp/ryumatsuba/t50rp.html
Smeggy Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 old, looks like the same crappy pads you can buy on ebay for $6 a pop.
