swt61 Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 That is going to be awesome smeggy! I really like the integral baffle, and the slot for the pad flanges. I can also see these being able to upgrade to a CamExpert LCD-2 style slotted grill. Way cool!

Currawong Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 This makes me wish I was in the USA just to try a pair, they look awesome.
skullguise Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 Wow.....that Rosa is indeed loverly! Hmmmmmm......you have a PM coming......
binyamin Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 Smeggy hand delivered my pair last night, and have since enjoyed the hell out of his creation. I've never heard ortho's before so this was leap of faith for me. The fit and comfort are excellent, I have a massive skull so being able to fit these to my head comfortably is a huge plus; they manage a very tight seal without clamping on the sides of your head. Weight is comfortable, contrary to what you'd think as picking them up they're on the heavy side but the weight is distributed evenly across the headband making the last 3 hour listening session pain free. As a contrast the Grado headband on my PS1k's starts to dig in after a hour or so, limiting my listening sessions. They have a very tightly controlled, detailed sound. I've been listening with a Pico + DAC, Lavry DA11 and a very upgraded Bottlehead SEX kit. So far my preferred synergy is with the Pico. Smeggy brought over 2 pairs, each tweaked for a different sound. One (the one I kept) has a more forward mid / lower highs, while the other had very powerful bass. In an ideal world I'd want a pair of each for different music types, but for low volume listening I preferred the mid/high push model. More to come after I've had time to understand these new headphones. For now it was a blast getting to meet Smeggy in person, it was a treat receiving a hands on demo, Smeggy taking the time to explain aspects of the construction, and design decisions of the thunderpants, not to mention some quality bullshitting. An impressive set of headphones Smeggy!
Asr Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 There's yet another ortho! Fang announced the HE-6 over at HF: CamJam 2010 HiFiMAN New Product - Head-Fi.org Community Gold coated diaphragm Impedance: 120 Ohm Efficiency: about 84 DB Available time: June or July, 2010 Final Price will be between $1300 and $1600
dreamwhisper Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 sweet, another ortho I can't afford. don't worry there's still a chance that it will suck
Edwood Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Hope Fang brings a working model of the HE-6 to CanJam. He might have something else as well, that is not a headphone.
monsieurguzel Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Is anybody else ticked off that Fang keeps cranking out new headphones every couple of months? First the HE-5 which had a bunch of issues and got replaced with the HE-5 LE, causing the initial run of headphones to devalue quite a bit. Now the HE-6 which, granted is in a different price bracket, doesn't help the fact that some might have wished to wait for the HE-6 instead of buying the HE-5 LE. The one thing I admire about the Audeze folks is that these guys showed the headphone at last years CanJam and spent and entire year finesing the design and making sure the materials, quality, sound are all up to par for a flagship ortho. I'm questioning how much time and research was put into the HE-6 consider the HE-5 / LE came out very recently and he's supposedly releasing 4-5 other products at Canjam (probably more amps, portable media players, headphones, etc.). I admire his dedication, but I wish he would make sure they didn't have bugs / defects / or even a need to modify out of the box (ala HE-5 LE grill mesh) before coming out to the market. I'm just a little skeptical about spending up to $1600 on a headphone from a manufacturer that doesn't necessarily support his headphones on the long run. Who's to say whether this headphone is going to be a 'beta' for the first 6 months and have issues again. A $1600 headphone had better have amazing sound and impeccable quality control, which I'm not sure will be the case with the HE-6, but we'll see. Sorry about my rant but I'm getting slightly ticked off by this new trend of releasing $1500 flagship headphones ever since the HD800 and pretending that they are amazingly innovative and trump all else (ie. Beyer T1, Edition 8, PS1000, probably HE-6, etc, etc..)
Salt Peanuts Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 No one is forcing you buy any headphones. If you don't like the way a company operates, don't deal with it.
Hens Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Problem is people all hear differently. As far as the whole he-5le mod saga is concerned, I'm fairly sure that it was "tuned" to sound the way it did. Hence why Fang and his engineers could advise you how to "tune" it to sound more like the he-5 which I suppose is what people wanted (even though they complained otherwise)
F1GTR Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Sorry about my rant but I'm getting slightly ticked off by this new trend of releasing $1500 flagship headphones ever since the HD800 and pretending that they are amazingly innovative and trump all else (ie. Beyer T1, Edition 8, PS1000, probably HE-6, etc, etc..) Perhaps you may be new to headphones in general, I'm really not sure, but this releasing of four figure headphones is certainly not a new trend. It probably just seems this way to you because so many companies released flagship offerings around the same time, after having a drought of sorts for a few years in a row.
ivanrocks321 Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 (edited) Hi im new here and I have a question. Does anyone know were to get replacements for Fostex T20RP the round ones? Forgive me if it was mentioned already on this thread, I must have missed it. never mind seems like o2 pads work. Edited May 21, 2010 by ivanrocks321 ans found
mypasswordis Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Which version of T20RP do you have? I could be mistaken, but the the newest version of T20RP might not work so great with O2 pads since they're kind of oblong/elliptical in shape. Edit: Reading comprehension fail on my part. I don't think you want to try the T20v2 with O2 pads though, at least without damping. The bass will be massive.
ivanrocks321 Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 They are the v2 so they should be round. And yes Jin the O2 pads are getting very hard to get now, as I just found out I hear of clones but who makes them?
Edwood Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 I'm demoing the HE-6's now. Is there anyone in SoCal with the LCD-2's? I'd like to do a good head to head comparo. Orthos ruled CanJam 2010 in full sized cans. Sorry Stax Mafia. -Ed
mypasswordis Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 Amazingly, the HE-5LE and HE-6 were the only gear I really wanted to try that I didn't get around to. That's not true, I didn't try the BHSE either. I was too distracted by the whisk(e)y. Looking forward to impressions/comparisons.
spritzer Posted June 7, 2010 Author Report Posted June 7, 2010 Stax bitches!!!!!! I did like the LCD-2 and the Thunderpants but the HE-5 was a massive letdown.
