Voltron Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Open one of headrooms new monoblock amps and you'll likely find something very similar. Kinda thought you might say that!
PFKMan23 Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 You'll also find them in some Bel Canto amps, the D sonics and some others that are not coming to me right now.
morphsci Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 I also don't think the prices are out of line at all. You really have to see the headroom amps in person and listen to them to appreciate their quality. I have always considered them underappreciated, especially on HF. I am also very interested in the amp stands, especially now that my new desktop speakers have arrived and are awaiting set-up.

I think the Bel Canto's use a different module. Headroom opted for one of the lower power modules since nothing on your desktop is ever going to need the 1000W that the Bel Canto ICE amps are rated at. IIRC they've licensed various forms of the tech to folks like Rotel and others so they're all over the place at this point.

My point is, if you wanted an ice module based amp there are plenty of choices. The D sonic stuff in particular seems fairly desktop friendly spacewise, although way overkill for desktop speakers.

Anything from single-channel small form-factor amps like the ones already mentioned to multi-channel HT stuff.
Pars Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 So... They're meant for Mac users? You'll burn in hell for that one
n_maher Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 You'll burn in hell for that one No worries, he's already stuck in Canada.
boomana Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 No worries, he's already stuck in Canada. But he'll be in Florida on Friday. I'm only a little worried.
naamanf Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 I'm hoping they sound good too since my next project is this: B&O 50ASX2. Nice. Let us know how you like them. I have heard the Jeff Rowland amps and they sound pretty darn good. Made in Colorado Springs to boot!
postjack Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 There's just no room for them so there's no option to add them unfortunately. No room you say? Tyll, you can just mail me the check. You have my address on file.
Fungi Posted May 1, 2008 Author Report Posted May 1, 2008 I was actually looking at the Balanced Desktop the other day and thinking to myself, "gee, I wish there were some loop or preamp outs on the non-DAC version."

Nisbeth Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Nate, I sure hope you got more than one of those modules /U.
n_maher Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Nate, I sure hope you got more than one of those modules /U. What, you think that I'd find something missing if I only had mono?
Nisbeth Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Well, erm... yes... Anyway, let's know how you like them when you finish - maybe you'll manage to persuade me to start on mine as well /U.
Nisbeth Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Here's what I currently have, but I just think it's a bit...big . Don't know if I can live with just 170Wpc on my desktop though, I am kinda used to 230 by know Front: (cd for scale) Back: (cd for scale) Sorry for the OT-hijack /U.
