luvdunhill Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 markl marce Mods Due to popular demand, I am now offering to perform the modifications I developed for the D5000 (and D2000) on your Denons. M
jinp6301 Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
n_maher Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 I'm confused as to why the 2/3 mod is 81.25% of the full price? Me fail math, that's unpossible.
Smeggy Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Your prices certainly seem reasonable given the labor and parts costs involved. I'm just glad pioneers like yourself are forging ahead with mods like these otherwise we'd all be at the mercy of high-priced amp builders. Bravo to you.
spritzer Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Will it sound as good as a Raptor? Nothing can beat the cRaptor but it should be a strong second place.
naamanf Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Will it sound as good as a Raptor? I'm actually finishing up a mod for the B22 that makes it sound better than the Raptor! And all you need is a snorkel, ice pick, and a avocado for the mod.
Upstateguy Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Hi Luv I would hope for that kind of money, will you at least be decorating the chips...? And will you be enlisting someone to review it in stages during it's 1750 hr burn in, so we can read all about it every day.... ? And could you make the signals run in both directions at the same time like Grawk's....? Thanks USG
luvdunhill Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 lol... in all seriousness, this copper foil EMI/RFI tape from 3M is pretty sweet. I haven't tried it on any opamps, but the DACs I've used it (such as the TDA1543 in the picture) on I can definitely tell a difference. Here's a link to some general information. I plan on trying it to my PPAv2 opamps soon and will report back.

luvdunhill Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 I wonder if I could add some Dynamat to the chips as well ..................
Pars Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Could you maybe put a bunch of these things in so users could ya know, like tune the sound like ya know, helmolz rosinators or some such shit like that? That'd rawk
luvdunhill Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 That'd rawk heh I like those heatsinks... beats the hell outta the Mouser / Digikey stuff.. I have some D2PAK form MOSFETs in my phonostage that could really use them. Nelson Pass had these mounted under the PCB and against the case and I didn't realize that until I finished my layout... yeah, they get real hot. Hint: video card / BGA chip overclockers make cool stick-on heatsinks.

That'd rawk I misread that as "could you maybe put a bunch of these things in users...?" Now that's a mod to consider. I'd like to recommend a few people for trials.

luvdunhill Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 Are these still available? I could maybe use some if so. They are stick on? yeah, a very nice thermal adhesive too. I bought them from here: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/swmcbgamera.html I tried a few different ones out and found these to test the best. After cryo'ing the heatsink, you'll get about -.0001 C/W better as well. It's definitely worth it.

Pars Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 <snip> After cryo'ing the heatsink, you'll get about -.0001 C/W better as well. It's definitely worth it. Thanks for the link. You're joking on the cryoing, right? (not up on my thermal shit, but 0.0001 C/W doesn't sound like its worth it...).

luvdunhill Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 That's one way to get on the gear modding ban list yeah, I've been on and off that list so many times. The only thing that gets me off the list is modding things like baby monitors and other "useful" electronics.
