The latest version of the Maggie 1.6 was powered with an ARC tube amp and Conrad Johnson preamp with my North Star M192 (Cary CDP used as transport). First time hearing these speakers I was a bit unimpressed; they were bass light and had an over emphasized top end. I'm guessing this tube system helped tame them, and IMO for $1600 these are probably the best bargain I've heard so far. Setup in a well dampened room, pulled out about 4 feet from the back walls. Handled Opeth and Iron Maiden surprisingly well, something I couldn't say the first time I heard them 8)

Maggies are one of the best value speakers you can buy and if you are good at DIY they can be much better. I'm thinking about picking up a set of MMG's to mod for about the same as the price of a Lambda.... :o

I'd love to hear the MMG, they are pretty damn cheap :o

What are the mods to make the 1.6 better?

Very cheap but sound great.

Here are some modded Maggies but everything except the drivers is thrown away and a new frame and crossover is needed.

Would've done it myself, but as a future cat(s) owner, Maggies and Vandersteens are not among my options.

just hang the MMGs from the ceiling. Do a search around, many people have done this (including myself).

Having owned both of these models, why aren't you considering the MG12s?

Still not taking chances, especially since all the cats I've lived in the past loved to jump onto anything hanging from the ceiling. Also, my fiancee will probably veto the idea.
