deepak Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlplay&1210780404 Yep. Still can't commit without hearing one in my system. Plus looking to hear a DCC2se this summer. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 i dare anyone to come over and listen to these meagre speakers and honestly tell me that it sounds bad.I bet they sound bad from off-axis...which is where I usually do all my speaker listening. Quote
aerius Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Yep. Still can't commit without hearing one in my system. Plus looking to hear a DCC2se this summer. It's used, on the 'gon. If you don't like it, you just flip it for the cost of shipping. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 i'm sitting to the side, right now, by about 30 degrees, and they don't sound bad, particularly. Yeah, but my speakers don't have an "off axis", and that's the way I like it. Quote
deepak Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 It's used, on the 'gon. If you don't like it, you just flip it for the cost of shipping. we both like the North Star, Deepak, and the Capitole Mk II is a big upgrade. It will probably come down to this once my amp is done. Quote
luvdunhill Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Yeah, but my speakers don't have an "off axis", and that's the way I like it. sorry, omni people are sematically challenged ... you need to use the term "lobing" instead of "off axis". Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Say what? Alright, yeah, kinda... Pedant. And right after you called me an "omni person", which isn't entirely correct, neither. And then misspelled "semantically". Maybe if I had said, "my speakers don't have an off-axis per se", because as soon as you get off-axis with one set of drivers, you're getting more on-axis with another. Which is lobing. Sort of. I guess my point is, they're a lot less dependent on listener position than traditional "directional" driver-based speakers. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 finally got some omnis, eh? like 'em a lot?I do. But I still prefer headphones. Not because I think one or the other is better, it's just headphone-listening is more in line with the way I listen to music than speaker-listening is. Quote
deepak Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Peter have you heard the MBL 101? Just curious what your thoughts are. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Just once, and briefly, and not well set up. We have a dealer here in the area that I need to go up and visit and spend an afternoon at. But based on what I've read, my thoughts are: (in caveman voice) Dusty want. Quote
luvdunhill Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 And right after you called me an "omni person", which isn't entirely correct, neither. double negative Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 double negative No, that's the correct use of 'neither'. See the adverb entry on this page. Quote
Knuckledragger Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Do you hyphenate "anal retentive"? Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 No, but when people mean "anal retentive" and say "anal", I correct them. And snicker to myself while doing so. (Incomplete sentence, yes, I know, it's an internet forum.) Quote
Spiug31 Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 No, but when people mean "anal retentive" and say "anal", I correct them. And snicker to myself while doing so. (Incomplete sentence, yes, I know, it's an internet forum.) And when people just say arse ? Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 It depends on whether they're being grammatically correct about it or not. Quote
Spiug31 Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 a slightly bizarre question this but: would speakers be as effective headphones if most of the listening was done lying down or would the speakers need to be positioned so that the listener was facing them in order for them to retain a good effect ? Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 It depends what you're trying to accomplish. If you're trying to image the band in front of you, then above you would be correct. If you're trying to imagine the band is in the room with you while you are lying down (as I would if I were listening to, say, Cowboy Junkies), then normal positioning would probably more likely accomplish that. Quote
Knuckledragger Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 No, but when people mean "anal retentive" and say "anal", I correct them. And snicker to myself while doing so. (Incomplete sentence, yes, I know, it's an internet forum.) [anal-retentive]I think you mean "froo froo".[/anal-retentive] LIAR! Quote
Fungi Posted March 20, 2008 Author Report Posted March 20, 2008 right now i'm listening to Pink Floyd via iPod Touch to Salty's Gilmore Lite to Boomana's HD650s. gotta say, sounds pretty good. You have to use an iMod with ALO vcap docks and ALO jena cryo interconnects and ALO vampire Senn cables. On a more serious side note, how do you like the HD650 that boomana said you would most definitely like? Quote
LFF Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 which is why i've been using speaker cables made out of old 14 AWG power cables. IMHO, it's some of the best stuff you can use. Although I hear coat hangers are now popular. Quote
bhd812 Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 lowes 6 gauge wire is amazingly good stuff! i use mit 750 cause it was not that much and has a nice high end Quote
