Fungi Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 What can I use to get rid of nasty sticker/tape goo residue without harming a nice surface? The item in question is the VAC-1 (VDA-2, VHP-2, whatever) and I'm talking about the nice smooth finish on the front plate.
aerius Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Lighter fluid. I'm serious, it really works. Safe for pretty much all metal surfaces and most plastics.
Fungi Posted March 8, 2008 Author Report Posted March 8, 2008 Thanks guys, I'll go try and find Goo Gone and a lighter tonight.
guzziguy Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 yep, lighter fluid is the safe glue residue removing master. WD-40 does a pretty good job too.
grawk Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 WD40 is great for cleaning guns. But it's basically diesel. You definitely have to clean the residue when you're done.
aerius Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 WD-40 does a pretty good job too. It does, but then you have to clean off the WD-40 residue with alcohol whereas lighter fluid evaporates away quickly and cleanly.

Almost everybody has WD-40. Most people don't have lighter fluid these days. If you have it or don't mind the trip to buy it, by all means use it.
swt61 Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Peanut butter does a nice job, and is completely harmless.
Smeggy Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Peanut butter does a nice job, and is completely harmless. .. and you get to lick off the residue
Fitz Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 I'm more likely to have lighter fluid than WD40, as I really don't like using WD40 for much.

Fungi Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 I asked my roommate to get lighter fluid and he bought me butane charcoal lighter fluid, but it worked
