thrice
Have you checked the reviews section at iLounge. I find their rating system to be pretty tough, with only good products getting A's a good, but more specific use products in the B range (marked down for price or lack of some functionality). blessingx
Thanks you two. I did run through nearly all of iLounges reviews and did see the TuffWrap. Lots of good info. In the end I just ordered a ToughSkin. Bulky, but I had a previous model on an iPod and as I consider the iPhone too big for pocket use anyway (okay, it's my first smartphone I'm used to much smaller ones - maybe I'll adjust), I didn't mind adding a little more bulk. I will say if I had unlimited funds I think I'd be eyeing these.
guzziguy
that looks fucking retarded. CRG also makes motorcycle accessories. Note the brake and clutch levers in the pictures. I have mirrors from CRG on my Guzzi and have seen the levers close up. CRG products are all well built. That doesn't mean that his thing isn't retarded, but it's probably a nice, well built retarded thing.
blessingx
Well, I think the most retarded aspect would be many of the options have a colored screen cover. Why would you want to make the iPhones screen all red/purple/yellow? And then add a customized etching on top of it? Make those videos pop! How is this usable? But I still would like a 'naked' version. EDIT: Okay, I'm an idiot. These are evidently (in at least some instances) flip/lids.
postjack
my first gen iPod is nude, and it's been fine since I bought it in jan. I've even dropped it quite a few times. my only complaint is I would like the screen to stay cleaner, but a quick wipe with a damp paper towel always does the trick. n_maher
Is this phone only or for the Touch too? Answered my own question: yes, this update applies to the Touch as well. I'm installing it now. Edited November 21, 2008 by n_maher
Hopstretch
Touch too, but it doesn't get Street View for some reason. Probably going to make you iPod peons pay for it.
blessingx
I know this was also discussed earlier, but since there's been some time since, anyone discover a reasonably inexpensive line-out adapter that works with the iPhone? I had one built for me for $30, seemed reasonable. I'll let you know how it works when it shows up.
Dusty Chalk
Don't they all work?
Sherwood
my 3g's port is an absolute pain in the ass. None of my charging plugs fit in it well. I settle for "cocked at a 20 degree angle held in place by my armrest charging 80% of the time." I imagine the number of successful LODs is low on that bitch's abomination of a port. n_maher
Don't they all work? I don't think so. IIRC the Touch and Phone have a different pinout, but I could be wrong. Here's the source of my line of thinking - http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f6/does-anyone-have-iphone-lod-pinout-308093/
Dusty Chalk
Again, that's the controls, I think the actual lineouts are the same. I'll try it tonight.
n_maher
I've got an old SikDin, I've never even tried it.
Dusty Chalk
Okay, it has to be entirely in software, because it's the same exact cables.
blessingx
The Sik Din works with my Touch, but doesn't with my iPhone unfortunately (audio wise). As for current cables working on all models, I thought the cables were backwards compatible (not past cables not forward).
grawk
The iphone wants there to be something "authorizing" it to work, basically.
blessingx
Yeah. Feel bad for those iPod speaker owners including a couple friends. One of the moves lately I don't agree with Apple on. For those looking, it appears the SendStation PocketDock USB is setup for iPhones.
Dusty Chalk
The iphone wants there to be something "authorizing" it to work, basically.Okay, so maybe the resistor is "cheating" by sending it this signal from one of the power lines? Maybe it's just a single DC signal...well, it has to be something simple like that, if the AV cables work with it, which apple says it does. Hopstretch
Interesting, if uncorroborated, article about the hardware differences between the latest iPhone and iPod Touch. Apparently the Touch processor runs significantly faster than the iPhone.
