n_maher Posted September 10, 2008 Author Report Posted September 10, 2008 Too bad they still haven't created a useful App.
Hopstretch Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I'll happily settle for all the built-in stuff working well.
aardvark baguette Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I love the new album art/ artist view. But I only had about 50 albums loaded to the library at the time. I've been getting a weird thing where the background (which was black) turns purple, and a section of the left sidebar turns green. It comes and goes. It first popped up when I went to the store view (which is a rarity for me), and went away when I returned to the library view. But then it started appearing in all the views. It happened last week when I had my ipod connected, and that was not with version 8 obviously. So I'm not sure what I managed to do to it
naamanf Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Anyone here have a touch/iPhone they work out with? I have a first gen nano that is about at the end of it's life and am trying to decide what to get. Should I hold out and get a iPhone, or get a nano and a touch? Or just a touch or iPhone. I currently have Sprint as my service provider so it would mean switching services. I also am not sure if I would want to carry something as large as a iPhone in my pocket. Those that have one how do you find it to be size wise in your pockets?
bhd812 Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Those that have one how do you find it to be size wise in your pockets? Same size as my wallet, but for ease i keep it in a different pocket. when i ride my bike i have the iPhone in my front pocket and i see nothing BIG about it..just like my wallet. i do wish my wallet was much bigger
JBLoudG20 Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I had been holding out on getting the new firmware, but my ipod crashed 3 times yesterday just listening to music. I'm not a fan of having to pay MORE to get the correct functionality of my player, but whats $10 on a $450 player
morphsci Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I guess I understand not releasing a 64Gb touch. They probably felt they could not do it at the price-point they wanted. I do not understand reducing the classic line to only 120GB. I would have assumed they would have gone 120/250 from the previous 80/160. Oh well, I am no longer tempted to buy a classic.
grawk Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 My guess re: the 160 is there wasn't a lot of demand at 160, so there'd be less at 250. So they just eliminated an unpopular option, making it so they could save on inventory expenses.
Hopstretch Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 As an occasional drunk dialer, I dunno about this on the iPhone.

I'd like for there to always be at least some form of player centered around audio instead of everything else. They announced the 120 right around the time the Toshiba 1.8" 240GB drive was announced.

Understanding that thought but usually Apple likes to distance itself from the Competition by a far mile? When it released the 80/160 classic last year what was out at the time in terms of a competitor? if anybody was there was not much but this year Apple is riding along the same stretch of road as the zune with size..they seem to to playing safe and not as bold as last year, i think personally they may loose lots of customers and market share to micro cause the new Apple products compare to closely with the Micro stuff out. they seem to be really pushing this Genius feature out and almost banking their ass on it, its nice and i know it will get better but its going to get old Quickly. how many people use smart playlists? how many people even know how to use the smart playlist feature? how many people even know such an amazing feature even exists? then again with no GB increase in the classic, Touch, and even the iPhone could be from the economy maybe: less demand for memory the less the price goes down for Apple? i am sure there are many other factors why Apple is not boosting their sizes. Wonder how many people this Christmas season are going to spend less on gifts then last year, esp for the big gb sized dap's, of course i have no doubt the Nano will sell like hotcakes as usual. Back on Topic: I would like to know how many 3G owners like the new Software coming out this friday and the overall performance of their iPhones after the upgrade. reason why i ask cause i am getting lots of offers to sell my First gen for $550 now, should i sell it to get my money back and go to the 3G?
grawk Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 microsoft has a 2% market share. They're not competition for the ipod.
Hopstretch Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 Just got the 2.1 FW on my iPhone and it's running like buttah. No more app launch lag, no more keyboard lag, back up is zoomy. If it really does also bring better cell network performance and a big boost in battery life, as promised, then this is a hell of an upgrade to an already nice package. Kind of like discovering your hot girlfriend has always secretly wanted to try anal. Or something.
bhd812 Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 just updates my first gen phone to the new software... super long backup time while the phone was on 2.0.2 but after that everything was super fast! i now see a different Edge logo and its amazingly fast! i also get 5 bars where i used to get 4..apps work fast and some that locked before do not now... wow.. just hope it dont screw me tonight..
Filburt Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Does anyone know if the new Touch has the Wolfson or the Cirrus Logic CODEC?
Filburt Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Nevermind. Apparently it uses the Cirrus Logic chip.
grenert Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Nevermind. Apparently it uses the Cirrus Logic chip. Is that the same as the original Touch?
Hopstretch Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 The Cirrus chip is apparently in the new Nano as well. It was first used in the 6G iPod Classic, where it was not always well received. The first-gen iPod Touch had the Wolfson WM8758BG.
bhd812 Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I figured its time to sell my 16gb first gen iphone and get my full money back (got to love the jail breaking market) and get a new white 3g iphone. restoring it now from my backup of the old phone this mourning. i think the 3g is pretty fast in my neighborhood sofar. instead of buying a $30 dock i went out and got the new iHome for charging purposes and alarm clock by the bed. its really decent sound and it came with the time already set, not sure if its an automatic time set. comes with a remote and you can set it to wake up up to songs on your iphone/ipod..i am setting mine to wake me up with some PORNO SONIC (thanks LFF) every mourning. i tested it in the store to make sure when someone calls or the phone has an alert it goes threw the iphone internal speakers if the iHome is off. i also bought the agent18 eco case for the 3G. its made from recycled bottles and like my old slider case its plastic and you can dock it without taking the case off. i cant stand the rubber cases cause they stick to the inside of your pockets which makes them harder to pull out. unlike the slider case the agent18 eco has these ribs on the side that make holding it easier. also come in better colors (i got the green for ECO-Friendly-BHD) then the slider. after everything is backed up and loaded in i am going to call the buyer i found on criagslist and sell my old iphone for $550. of course i am doing a 2 hour total delete now then pulling out my sim card..
Filburt Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Is that the same as the original Touch? 1G has Wolfson WM8758 as noted earlier. I found I didn't really like the new Cirrus Logic chip's sound quality in the Classic. Don't know about the 2G yet, though. Will have to make a head-to-head comparison when I get the chance.
thrice Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Too bad they still haven't created a useful App. I beg to differ.
saint.panda Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Just got myself a factory unlocked iphone from Belgium for 615 EUR. That pretty much depletes my gadget budget for the rest of the year. Can't wait to use Omnifocus on the iphone though.
humanflyz Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 For those of you on the AT&T iPhone plan, does the lowest monthly rate ($70) include unlimited data/web access?
Hopstretch Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Yes. But only on the device. Tethering is verboten.
bhd812 Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 apple remote has an update out.. you can edit playlists and use the genius function now...WOOT WOOT! editing playlists on friday nights is sooooooooo prefect!!!
