ilikebananafudge Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 I have the K701s and i'd read on this forum that there are some with 2 foam pad layers and some with one. I was wondering if there might be any way to tell which one I have without tinkering, using the serial number or something (I don't want to tinker for fear of irreversible damage) Quote
Fungi Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Grab pad. Twist counter clockwise. It will slide a little, and you can take it off. There should be 1-2 foam donuts behind it. Apparently they started with 2, but changed it to 1 somewhere along the line. Quote
ilikebananafudge Posted February 24, 2008 Author Report Posted February 24, 2008 Ah yes, that is easy. It appears mine only has one foam pad. S/N 144xx Thanks Quote
dc Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 really? never heard of them having 2 disks i have some spare ones at home, i might put 2 in just to see what it sounds like mine's got only 1 and it's serial 4885 Quote
ilikebananafudge Posted February 25, 2008 Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 if you stick some foam in tell me what it sounds like. I'd be interested to know because I find them a tad bit bright, maybe some more foam would help, although I don't have any foam donuts... might just find some cheese cloth or something... Quote
lostonetr Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Mine are serial 1839, only have one foam pad/disk on each side. I don't believe the previous owner did anything with switching the foam, but I could be wrong. Quote
JBLoudG20 Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 How many rings should I add to my k240 to make them sound like R10's? Quote
ojnihs Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 How many rings should I add to my k240 to make them sound like R10's? i'd say 2 Quote
JBLoudG20 Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 i'd say 2 Done, let me burn them in for a few months, then I'll let you know how it worked. Quote
ojnihs Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Done, let me burn them in for a few months, then I'll let you know how it worked. i'm expecting good things man, anything less, and i may have to off myself Quote
dc Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Well I added my spare foam disks on to my K701s First thing to mention is that I doubt that AKG included 2 x foam disks with early K701 and if they did they wouldn't have been the same thickness as the current disks because when installed it has this wierd looking bulge that sticks out and begins to touch my ears. Sound wise it's not much different. I actually expected more of a difference considering my experiments with the K501 and the K701 without disks but the sound changes ever so slightly for the worse. Bass impact and quantity are decreased, ever so slightly and mids/highs become a little less pronounced and muffled. Differences are very slight however. Quote
ilikebananafudge Posted February 26, 2008 Author Report Posted February 26, 2008 Thanks for the info I probably won't bother trying to find foam pads then. Quote
Fitz Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 How many rings should I add to my k240 to make them sound like R10's? Fuck the rings, just put some dynamat all over the insides and they'll easily whoop the R10. Quote
swt61 Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 It's true, my PortaPros just edged out the HE90 after the Dynamat MarkL mod. Quote
ilikebananafudge Posted February 29, 2008 Author Report Posted February 29, 2008 Hmm, well I was thinking of cryo treating my donuts. Quote
ilikebananafudge Posted February 29, 2008 Author Report Posted February 29, 2008 i added dynamat to my brainstem and now the bass is tremendous. Any sibilance? Quote
swt61 Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Hmm, well I was thinking of cryo treating my donuts. :o :o Quote
Fitz Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Hmm, well I was thinking of cryo treating my donuts. I dunno, I usually like my donuts when they're still hot and fresh off the donut making contraption. Quote
swt61 Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Any sibilance? Well he had a mean lisp to begin with, so one could hardly hold MarkL responsible for the remaining sibilance. Quote
swt61 Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 I dunno, I usually like my donuts when they're still hot and fresh off the donut making contraption. These donut jokes are going too far. Save the donuts! Quote

Dusty Chalk Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 i added dynamat to my brainstem and now the bass is tremendous. You know, (Walt) Disney tried cryo-treating his head, look where it got him. Quote
Pars Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 You know, (Walt) Disney tried cryo-treating his head, look where it got him. No, that was coco-treating... different. A friend told me that he heard from someone that if you do the dynamat mod, it takes like 47 man-years for burn in or something like that. I'd let em go 50 before listening, just to be safe tho...
