tyrion Posted February 1, 2008 Author Report Posted February 1, 2008 Vicki looks very matronly there It's the new reading glasses. Gene's O2mk2/007tmk2 sound nice. I find the O2mk2 more comfortable than the O2. I don't have the O2 here to do a comparison. That will have to wait until Saturday assuming we ever leave Houston. Our initial flight was 6:30 pm Central time. We then got on a 9 pm flight that is delayed until 11:20 pm. Quote

boomana Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Vicki looks very matronly there I'm going for the librarian look. Here's one from my camera: We may be delayed, but per jp nums, Thrice is "lost" in Vegas. Quote
Pars Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 You guys/gals sure look like you know how to travel... hope the rest of the trip goes smoother Quote
grawk Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 I'm going for the librarian look. I figured it was the "don't want to be bothered while travelling" look Quote
Iron_Dreamer Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Wow that really blows, but at least you're making the best of it there. Nothing like friends and headphones to make flight delays a bit more bearable. See you all Saturday if not tomorrow! Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 If I saw people with Stax's in an airport -- much less a black, full-size pair -- I think I'd have a stroke/heart attack/aneurysm/episode/seizure/some combination of the above.Vicki looks very MILF there Quote
thrice Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Stephen left himself logged in at home. That's either his wife or his cat. Quote
boomana Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Stephen, who is sitting next to me, asked me to tell you that he has managed, through the marvels of modern technology, to log in and post from Fairfax. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Quote
deepak Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Wow you guys busted out the SR-007 at the airport. Niiiiiice Quote
boomana Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Too much amazing gear to begin to talk about. One post for now: seriously amazing K1000 homebrew amp (built last week). This amp uses large Russian GM70 transmitting triodes as output tubes. GM70s are driven by 6BX7 television vertical amplifier tubes from the early 1960s The two tubes are coupled by interstage transformers. It uses dual high-voltage power supplies, using mercury-vapor rectifiers run into LCLCLC filters. The GM70 filaments are powered by a standard industrial "brute force" power supply. Per the builder, Frank Cooter, the circuit is straight out of 1937. All I can say is it sounds damn good with the K1000s, beautifully natural with a smooth high end (loosing that sometimes digital feel the K1000s treble gives), and beefy, but clean bottom end. The builder and his amp: I haven't yet had time with the famed emm labs/zanden combo, but the Cooter amp (it has no name) pretty much blew me away. Quote
humanflyz Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 IIRC, Frank Cooter also built a DIY amp for the RS-1s during last year's Head-Fest. Quote
Iron_Dreamer Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Johnny Blossoms! Satan by day: ...and Satan by night! Quote
Fungi Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 What's that DIY-looking wooden headphone? And I love the space cadet look Ken has going on. Quote
Salt Peanuts Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 What's that DIY-looking wooden headphone? HEAUDIO 1.3 stat phone, IIRC. Quote
JBLoudG20 Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 By god that HEAudio phone got fugly. It was pretty shitty looking before, and now it just looks like firewood. Quote
Salt Peanuts Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 By god that HEAudio phone got fugly. It was pretty shitty looking before, and now it just looks like firewood. Agreed. Methinks they should have used darker wood/materials all around. The new black SR-007 MkII, OTOH, looks fantastic. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Actually, I think it looks good. Doesn't look like pretty much any other phone. I mean, for something that isn't black. Quote
CD44hi Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Nice meet! thanks for the pics. OK, how about more impressions please!!!!!!! I see 3 Cooter amps, is that correct? Comments on configuration, etc... thanks! Quote
n_maher Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 I see 3 Cooter amps, is that correct? Comments on configuration, etc... I think what you're seeing is all one amp, 2 separate power supplies tied to the central amplification section. Quote
spritzer Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 I think what you're seeing is all one amp, 2 separate power supplies tied to the central amplification section. Dual mono supplies with a single amp section. I like that he used GM70's in a headphone amp as Lamm is charging 100k+ for a similar amp for speakers... Quote
