PFKMan23 Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 I've had my Pico for a while and that's not what I've experienced. I'd shoot Justin an email.
lutfisk Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 ah shoot, I've already sent him an email but understandably he's quite busy so I'm just going to have to wait for a reply.
Iron_Dreamer Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 Sounds like it would have to be the battery, I don't think there's anything else particularly heavy in there.
riceboy Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 Sounds like it would have to be the battery, I don't think there's anything else particularly heavy in there. x2. It does sound like the battery, but I would contact Justin. Best of luck
HardHead Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 You may just want to put it in a box and send it to him with a letter enclosed, thats what he will tell you to do after you wait all that time for him to respond to your e-mail.
HardHead Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 I have number 073 and I can say I love my Pico. It drives my 650s very nicely and I have even started to use it as a Dac and that has worked out well. Sound is clean and very detailed never too harsh, rides the fence between detailed and harsh very nicely. Sometimes I wonder if something like a Cambridge 840 or a Dac 1 would mkae a good replacment but like IronDreamer said there foesnt seem to be much of a difference and I do like the size and the price.
HardHead Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 open it up and see what it is. He is right, if you open it then it may just require a new tie wrap to hole it in place.
luvdunhill Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 He is right, if you open it then it may just require a new tie wrap to hole it in place. I seriously doubt there are any tie wraps in a pico. My guess is it's crack.
n_maher Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 I don't know how justin fastens the batter to one (or both) of the pcb's but it's not a tie wrap from what I can tell from the images posted. The best advice is to contact justin and get the return instructions directly from him, not some asshat here.
postjack Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 I seriously doubt there are any tie wraps in a pico. My guess is it's crack. yeah its a rock for sure.
justin Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 Originally I used 4-mil double stick tape to secure the battery, but my latest shipment of batteries aren't as flat on the bottom so that wasn't working out. I used some hot glue and it didn't hold on a few amps in shipment. I've gone back to double sided tape only much thicker this time.
n_maher Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 Yeah, I've found hot glue to be pretty intolerant of shock loading especially when bonded to a smooth surface (like a pcb or chassis). With porous or irregular shapes it seems to work much better.
Nenso Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Mine arrived a few days ago. BEST COLOUR EVER!
Nenso Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Tha's a vehre pretteh shade of red. Yeah! I thought black/red would look nice but I never knew it would turn out so nice. you are now headcase approved. Thanks ^()^
Voltron Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Yeah! I thought black/red would look nice but I never knew it would turn out so nice. You'll have to listen to this over and over on your Pico:
Nenso Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 You'll have to listen to this over and over on your Pico: haha, sure btw more pics! Compared with my NDS SIDEVIEW
jinp6301 Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 That is a nice color combination. How long did it take to get yours?
Fungi Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 When you said DS, I thought you were going to compare it to the crimson/black DS Lite. Now the question is, does the Pico beat that AT DAC/amp?
Nenso Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Wow this pico is REALLY GOOD. I'm not kidding because it brought out the characteristics of my headphones that I had a really hard time hearing out with my AT amp. Yes the Pico obliterates the AT amp I'm bad at describing sound but if I had to, I'd say the AT DAC/amp does the job of providing the digital to analog conversion and that is all. AT Amp: It is pretty muddy overall and when I listen to more complicated tracks, different guitars sound identical and the lower range like the kick drums and bass are more similar sounding. In hindsight, I realized I couldn't hear a lot of things with it. I don't think this amp is worthy enough to drive my headphones because it simply did the job of providing a DAC but has a horrible amp. Pico: I heard things I never knew were in the music. I felt that my rig really deserves something better than the AT amp and the Pico really lives up to its reputation. I'm not exaggerating when I say that my headphones have transformed after I started using the Pico because prior to this they didn't sound so great compared to now. <note: forgive me for my grammar, I typed this in a hurry> Offtopic: Fungi BTW thanks a lot man for your computer suggestions, I picked up 2 Smart Drives in the official retailers in akiba and they work great.
Dusty Chalk Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Actually, that was pretty well said. Nice to hear that you're happy with your gear.
boomana Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Nenso, that looks really good, and I bet it looks even better in person. Congrats.
JimP Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Mine arrived a few days ago. BEST COLOUR EVER! Jack and Meg would approve of the color scheme...now crank 'Rag And Bones' to break it in!!
