thrice Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 So I've been listening to more music at work (now that I have a job that lets me do that) and I've been coming across some of my favorite songs/lyrics. Rules: 1) Don't post full song lyrics, just the few lines that you find inspiring/neat-o/fuckass awesome/profound...etc. 2) Please include the artist, song title, and album. 3) Format counts you lazy SOB's; Lyrics and song title in "quotes", Album title in italics. ie. Artist: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals Album: This is Somewhere Song: "Ah Mary" Lyric: "She's the beat of my heart, She's the shot of gun"

postjack Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Good thread. The threads where people post entire song lyrics are useless. Artist: Genesis Album: A Trick Of The Tail Song: "Squonk" Lyrics: "All in all you are a very dying race, Placing trust upon a cruel world, You never had the things you thought you should have had And you'll not get them now, And all the while in perfect time Your tears are falling on the ground..."

Absorbine_Sr Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I don't agree with your formatting choices, but...whatevs... Artist: Tonio K. Album: Life in the Foodchain Song: "HATRED" Lyric: "I wish I were as mellow, as, for instance, Jackson Brown but 'fountain of sorrow' my ass motherfucker I hope you wind up in the ground" Dusty FTW!!! My God I love that song!!! Anyway, mine is simply one line, but it rolls off the tongue wonderfully. The fact that it describes something so horrific makes it even more delightful to me: Artist: Warren Zevon Album: Excitable Boy Song: "Werewolves of London" Lyric: "Little old lady got mutilated late last night"
hungrych Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Artist: Public Enemy Album: It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back (Flavor Flav) Song: "She Watched Channel Zero?!" Lyric: "Look! Don't nobody look like that. Nobody even look like that!"

boomana Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Artist: Tom Waits Album: Rain Dogs Son: 9th and Hennepin Lyrics: forget a snippet. Not a wasted word in these lyrics: Well it's Ninth and Hennepin All the doughnuts have names that sound like prostitutes And the moon's teeth marks are on the sky Like a tarp thrown all over this And the broken umbrellas like dead birds And the steam comes out of the grill Like the whole goddamn town's ready to blow... And the bricks are all scarred with jailhouse tattoos And everyone is behaving like dogs And the horses are coming down Violin Road And Dutch is dead on his feet And all the rooms they smell like diesel And you take on the dreams of the ones who have slept here And I'm lost in the window, and I hide in the stairway And I hang in the curtain, and I sleep in your hat... And no one brings anything small into a bar around here They all started out with bad directions And the girl behind the counter has a tattooed tear One for every year he's away, she said Such a crumbling beauty, ah There's nothing wrong with her that a hundred dollars won't fix She has that razor sadness that only gets worse With the clang and the thunder of the Southern Pacific going by And the clock ticks out like a dripping faucet til you're full of rag water and bitters and blue ruin And you spill out over the side to anyone who will listen... And I've seen it all, I've seen it all Through the yellow windows of the evening train...

The dim light she comes peering through the forest pines And she knows by the sound of the baying, by the baying of the hounds Diana, Diana kick your feet up Lust bears his teeth and whines For he's picked up the scent of virtue And he knows the panic signs" Also from this album: "A million fleshy things converge upon the spot" "Your soft white flesh turns past me slaked with blood" Lots of clever little gems.

Hear her typewriter humming cutting dreams down to size again. Rules: Screw them, yet again.

Thelonious Monk Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 Bunch of fucking mindless goons / listen to the same old tunes / look at me and call me strange / haven't got the balls to change Some song by Siege.
