See, and that right there is why you shouldn't be a mod.

What the fuck does that mean? It appears that everytime I say something you feel a raging need to show your disdain for me (and I have no idea why).

My point was a valid one and I believe others here agree with me. Some might not, but some do.

Please explain to me why my statement should be the reason why I shouldn't be a mod.

All you do is sit back on your high horse and say how it was back in the day and why you quit and that song is getting old.

New Years Eve 1995, following the phish concert at madisson square garden, some friends of mine and I were getting high in the subway station under MSG. Some cops looked over, and we yelled out to them "Happy Fuck You!", they laughed and yelled it back.

Among that group of friends, that's been our standard NYE greeting ever since.

In 1993 I went to a Johnny Winter concert at the Beacon and everyone kept yelling out "Johnny Fuckin' Winter!"

To this day, it's an ongoing joke between me and my fellow attendees that referrals to his name can't be said any other way. Quite fitting O0

I could care less about the topic of that thread, I agreed completely that it should be locked purely on the basis that it was absolutely fucking worthless and had no comedic value. Worthless and funny is ok by me, worthless and stupid = asshat and that's the one and only rule right?

I agree with Nate and Boomana on this in every way. I don't know but it appears lately, perhaps because we have somewhat of a reputation for not taking any BS but there seem to be a number of people migrating here to act out. In my opinion it is one thing to have uncensored dialogue on various subjects which I appreciate and value but it is another thing to have juveniles acting out to prove some type of point. That acting out behavior is a waste of bandwith and offers no value to me of any kind.

Sorry, I meant, "That right there is why you should never be a father."

No, seriously dude, you were just being a prick, stirring shit up, fucking with us -- not making a valid point -- so expect same. Quit being so fucking thin-skinned -- if you can't take the heat, don't involve yourself in these discussions. It's time for...

For the record, I don't show my disdain for you every time you post, only when you're being a prick. I don't care how many people on this site like you, I will call you out on it every single fucking time.

Too late. Have 2 lovely, well adjusted (better than me) kids. And when I said "rape your daughters", as an example of why freedom of speech doesn't always work, I meant other's kids, not my own.

My kids are safe and so is my fatherhood as long as they don't find the porn that is sublayered in hidden directories on my hard drive.

And if I was being a prick by stirring shit up around here, don't I fit right in?

No, stirring up shit is so last year, literally. we don't do that anymore and it's frowned upon.

OK, then like James Bond, I will go with the "shaken, not stirred" approach from now on

RE: Lots of moderators on Head-Case

Moderators are different here than on the 'Fi. Basically, if you are a moderator here it just gives you more power to screw with people... so as far as I can tell the moderator title is just handed out to those that they trust with that power and/or the cool kids. It gives us non moderators something to envy which promotes the atmosphere that we have all grown to love. ;)

I actually think that we've got a good moderator/member ratio here. It's fairly often that I log in and I'm the only mod here and I'm sure the others share that experience. And it's pretty clear to me that we've got enough asshats that warrant watching. :)

Time to throw in my 2 cents I guess. I think Boomana was right to lock that thread, it was stupid, idiotic and was clearly done to get attention. Yes we put up with and allow a lot of crap here but starting a stupid thread like that just for the hell of it is really quite annoying.

Do we have a set of rules written in stone about what is and isn't allowable? Of course we don't, we handle everything on pretty much a case by case basis. If something crosses the line or is just plain stupid it'll get locked.

We do allow people to speak their mind about as freely as I think you'll find anywhere. However that doesn't give anyone the right to be an asshat and start shit just for the sake of it.

I'm not sure why some of you think we have too many mods. We have a grand total of 5 plus myself and Reks as admins. Many of the new mods in fact replaced some of the originals who just aren't around anymore.

Think of it like a dinner party. For the most part, people put up with oafishness. Get out of control, and people will either ask you to relax, or show you the door. No rules needed. Mostly, adults know how to interact with one another, and can generally tell when they've gone too far.

If you think other things went too far, and are surprised in this case, just be aware that everyone here is human, and doing it for fun. If you'd like to pm someone about a thread that's out of hand, feel free. You may get some grief about it, or it may get locked. Heck, if it's bad enough, we may even send you their home address so you can go solve the problem in person.

Freedom of Speech has no application here. Your speech here is as free as the admins and mods say it is. Even where it does apply it's not unrestricted. I could care less about the thread which started this discussion. Imo, it was started by someone looking for attention, so he decided to post something that was so utterly useless, probably offensive to some (not me), and served no purpose.I hear people say, if you don't like it, ignore it or sorry about your thin skin. Well if you don't like the actions a mod takes relative to that idiotic thread, then ignore it. If you can't handle the actions of a moderator, then perhaps your skin isn't as thick as you believe it is. As others have said, either anything goes or lines have to be drawn and the admins and mods set those lines. Clearly from what I've read, there are already certain lines that can't be crossed and it looks like another one has been set, approporiately imo. Anything goes would be the absolute downfall of this site.

As surprising as this might be to some I actually have to agree with Mike here ;).

Oh, that makes it so much better.

Not if you whine about it when you get shit back.

The use of hyperbole to prove a point is perfectly acceptable. Especially when dealing with people who don't understand subtlety.

I never said he shouldn't post. I just called him an ass on this. I think you're giving him more credit than he deserves by believing subtlety from his post. The mention of "rape" is hardly subtle -- it was deliberately inflammatory, and hence the "shouldn't be a mod" comment.

Dusty, I think you've gone a long way at proving who the ass is here. In case that's too subtle, it's not immtbiker. His use of hyperbole was perfectly appropriate to make the point he made. It was not inflammatory. It was to make a point that I seens to have been lost on you.

It was not inflammatory.
Saying it is not inflammatory does not make it not inflammatory, it just makes you (a) wrong, (B) a liar, © all of the above/a lawyer.

And I question anyone who talks about raping kids as being (a) subtle, (B) not an ass, © not inflammatory. I stand by my statements.

You just can't stop. How much further in your mouth can you insert your foot? I'm guessing your about at your ankle at this point.
