deepak Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 What have been your experiences selling on Audiogon? Appreciate any feedback, thanks.
tkam Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I've had mostly good experiences (both buying and selling) but I've had a few negative ones as well. For example when I bought a Melos on audiogon a few years ago it wasn't packed very well and arrived damaged. The seller disappeared and I had to pay for repairs myself. The 2nd bad one is actually more funny than bad. I sold a PrimaLuna Prologue 1 and the buyer complained about me rating it as a 8/10 because it had some dust on it. He actually wanted a partial refund because of it.
tyrion Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I have more than 50 transactions I think and 99% were excellent.
grawk Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I have more than 50 transactions I think and 99% were excellent. How did you have half a bad transaction?
Salt Peanuts Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I haven't sold that many items, but I haven't had problems with any of my transactions as the seller. Compared to listing items on HF (I've listed items at the same time on both sites), I received far less low-ball offers from Audiogon, though I still did get fair amount of tire kickers. The 2nd bad one is actually more funny than bad. I sold a PrimaLuna Prologue 1 and the buyer complained about me rating it as a 8/10 because it had some dust on it. postjack Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 some sellers on audiogon make me crazy. I hate ads with no pictures, especially when the "description" is in all caps and the makes the seller sound like a dick. FOR SAL ROGUE STEALTH PHONO MO ONLY
deepak Posted December 28, 2007 Author Report Posted December 28, 2007 That's good. I've been thrilled with all my Audiogon purchases, save for one or two the sellers have all been very approachable and personable.
tom_hankins Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 So far so good. About 60 transactions, probably 50/50 buy and sell.
spritzer Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I haven't had many transactions there yet but all have been good so far, both buying and selling.
shokunin Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 130+ transactions, all but one went fine, seller never sent item. I'd always recommend that you disclose up front any issues, cosmetic, functional, quirks, otherwise, it'll come back to haunt you. People seem to want prisitine collectible cosmetic items, when they are buying used, so I always under-rate the condition. Better to be conservative IMO. If buying, ask questions, are you the original owner, does it come with the original box, are there any issues, quirks, has the item ever been repaired? if so, by whom. Nothing that doesn't fall into common sense either in buying or selling. IME, audiogon buyers and sellers are way nicer to deal with than eBayers.
bhjazz Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 IME, audiogon buyers and sellers are way nicer to deal with than eBayers. X2. I pretty much stay away from eBay these days. Deals might look good, but they often go haywire. As for Audiogon, I've had just handful of transactions, and only had to deal with one lowball sob. The rest were superb.
tyrion Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 How did you have half a bad transaction? It's the new math, smart ass.
n_maher Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 It's the new math, smart ass. Kinda like when 5 posts become 0 posts?
tyrion Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Kinda like when 5 posts become 0 posts? That's magic.
n_maher Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 The only issue that I've had is that people don't leave feedback. I've purchased two things and sold another and none of the 3 has left feedback when it was done. To the best of my knowledge all of the transactions went off without issue so I must have bad luck with that.

socrates63 Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 When making my first Audiogon purchase, the seller told me that it is the standard practice on Audiogon for buyers to pay the 3% paypal fee (this was not mentioned in the ad). Is this true?
spritzer Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 unfortunately, yes, even though, i do believe, it is against the Paypal terms of use. That's only on ebay as they are pushing Paypal.
909 Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 almost certain it's against their terms of use, without exception.
justin Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 That's only on ebay as they are pushing Paypal. No, it is against their terms of use at all times. My suggestion: Google Checkout

lupus Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 i came upon a couple threads recently in other forums regarding audiogon's questionable feedback policy. it was stated that leaving negative feedback is an extremely frustrating process and that the admins there deliberately attempt to thwart the posting of negative feedback. all this, so that audiogon can keep the wheels greased and the money flowing through the forum, and of course, more revenue coming in.
Salt Peanuts Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 They changed the policy so that all feedbacks must be approved by the other party. It's idiotic, IMHO.
luvdunhill Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 my biggest complaint about Audiogon is all the lamerz... if you're selling something below $1000 expect to get all kinds of tire-kickers. It's like being at the dirt market in Beijing... frackin annoying if you ask me.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 Can someone find the relevant portion of the terms of use? I went looking the other week and couldn't find anything. I know it is, but I can't hold anyone to it if I can't find the relevant section.
