n_maher Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 Got 5" yesterday and it's snowing again now. In between those storms I managed to make a run down to the cape to celebrate new years with some of my college cronies and their families. All someone had to say was 80deg heated indoor pool and I was there.
n_maher Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I might not be snowing out today but I'd prefer that to the current weather... Current Temp - 10deg F w/ a 10 to 15mph wind. Fracken cold!
Dusty Chalk Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 We got the cold, too, it just barely crested freezing today. I'm a happy boy, though -- my previous allergist said that if I prayed for stuff, I should pray for cold dry winters, because those would be best for me.

Fracken cold! Heh I'm glad im not at my apt right now. In Storrs we have a constant >25 mph wind. Sucks so bad in the winter, but is nice in the summer. In Springfield, two nights ago we got about 4".

I hear ya man...I think it migh have hit 30F today...whooowee, cold Nice shots on page 7 though...I miss those NE winter storms, shoveling snow, and the calm quiet of a light snowfall in evening. I am lucky to live somewhere I can see stars at night though and deer walk through our backyard in the mornings/evenings, so I guess i can't complain too much.
grawk Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I miss fairbanks winters. It's in the 20s and windy here, it's -5 and still in fairbanks. I'd take below zero without wind over above zero with wind any day.
Iron_Dreamer Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 5-8 feet of snow with hurricane force winds coming to the Sierra Nevada tomorrow. 'makes me glad I don't live at 8,000 feet anymore.
Salt Peanuts Posted January 13, 2008 Author Report Posted January 13, 2008 So who is looking forward to yet another snowstorm tomorrow?
en480c4 Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 So who is looking forward to yet another snowstorm tomorrow? :prettyprincess: I am!!! :prettyprincess:
Salt Peanuts Posted January 13, 2008 Author Report Posted January 13, 2008 As much as I love my Civic's great MPG performance, it's time like this I wish I had a car that drives better in the snow.
en480c4 Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 I hear that... I did pick a bad winter to go from a Jeep with full-time AWD and limited slip differentials front and rear to an overpowered FWD car with crappy TC and no snow tires. But considering my commute is a little over 2 miles, I'll deal. I <3 snow!
Chekhonte Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 I don't know who made the deal with the devil but it's over 50 degrees here and clear skies with plenty of sunshine. I just wanted to rub it in for all of you guys suffering through winter.

You need snow tires, Haj. My wife's Civic was god-awful in the snow until we equipped it with proper tires. And we didn't even go with studs, just standard snows.
luvdunhill Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 I played with the kids today in the yard wearing shorts... it was like sunny and 65 or so in the afternoon ...

n_maher Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Do the snow tires, Haj and get them somewhere local that will work the seasonal changeover into the price so that you don't need a spare set of rims. I went out and picked up gas for the snowblower today. We're forecast to get somewhere between 12 to 16" overnight and tomorrow. Yikes.
Salt Peanuts Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 It's about 12" here - my town had already cancelled the school for tomorrow at 6pm. Of course, the best part is I get to drive all the way to Andover for work. Joy.

Dusty Chalk Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 There's a small chance of "wintery mix" tonight, but nothing to speak of, according to WTOP.
Knuckledragger Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 This is what my yard looked like yesterday morning. Plow guy didn't show up until nearly 4PM. Fortunately, I drive a Subaru. It really was that blue out. I told my housemate I needed to white balance my eyes, they must be lying to me.
thrice Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 I may end up doing just that if it keeps snowing like this for rest of the season. Yep snow tires are the way to go, or at the very least all-season radials. I always found it funny living in MD during snow. All these people spinning out and stuck on the roads...people in SUVs! There I was with my little Chevy Celebrity Station wagon, scooting by them... big cars and 4WD aren't a cure for not knowing how to drive in the snow. Even snow tires don't cure everything...they're just a tool to help. We never got as much snow as NH in CT growing up, but we got enough to teach you how to drive it in properly. My driving test was 3 days after a huge snowfall, I'll never forget. Who would have though that a driving instructor would have to tell a teenager that it's ok to drive a little faster!
Salt Peanuts Posted January 15, 2008 Author Report Posted January 15, 2008 I must say, the snow storm was bit of let down for me. I expected more, not that I'm complainig, mind you. Everyone must've taken the day off, though, as there were very few cars on my communte in the morning and afternoon. And yes, with the possibility of moving to NH relatievely soon growing by the day, I need to seriously look into better tires for the next winter season.
