kevin gilmore Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) I'm assuming its acceptable to begin the drinking of the grand champaigne after the blowing of the snow sure hope so even if it is 10am. Had to blow snow 4 times since 2 am. picture at 6am with natural lighting thru second story window. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/dsc_1792.jpg Edited February 2, 2011 by kevin gilmore
Absorbine_Sr Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) I believe it is not only acceptable, but appropriate. Cheers! Taking the Corvette out for a spin today Kevin? Edited February 2, 2011 by Absorbine_Sr
kevin gilmore Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Taking the Corvette out for a spin today Kevin? They finally plowed the street, so i'm good to go if i have to. But really a few more hours for the rest of the main streets to be plowed seems prudent.
cetoole Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Looks like about 1/2" freezing rain/ice outside right now. Should make for a nice trip in to the office. Fucking winter. This, and it did. Worst was probably the slush and puddles though.
kevin gilmore Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 here are a couple more pictures http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/dsc_1799.jpg http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/dsc_1800.jpg
purk Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 stay safe guys! I love another round of ice/snow here in Atlanta. Of course, having to make up for lost days at work is no fun!
Absorbine_Sr Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 But yay!!! It has stopped snowing here and the sun is out!!
Pars Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) Out the door to the deck... Towards the cul de sac... Towards the street. Still not plowed (12:30pm) Back out for round 2 shoveling/snowblowing. I need a bigger snowblower Edited February 2, 2011 by Pars
falkon Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I believe this is the first time Northwestern has cancelled classes since 1975 so I think champagne is appropriate.
revolink24 Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I believe this is the first time Northwestern has cancelled classes since 1975 so I think champagne is appropriate. RIT has failed to break tradition and cancel classes. The email they sent out was something like "If you're unprepared for this snowstorm, you're going to die, because the world is about to end, but you have to go to class anyway."
Beefy Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I ended up walking home through about a foot of snow tonight, with ice pellets falling for good measure. But the sky made it worth it...... it was the most extraordinary, eerie pink colour.
Dusty Chalk Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 We're supposed to get ice and freezing rain.Drove home in it around 2am -- it was nothing.
grawk Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 yah, the upshot was it melted the snow I had left on my driveway, woo!
Dusty Chalk Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 The rain got into spaces that the sun could not. Plus, it rinsed off my car.
recstar24 Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 School is cancelled for tomorrow as well!
jvlgato Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I'll add a few 'too much snow pics' for good measure. I was told this was the first school closing for our high school in over 30 years!
Aura Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) The pug does not look content, John. Classes cancelled again for tomorrow. 2 1/2 days of cancelled school = super woot. Edited February 2, 2011 by Aura
Salt Peanuts Posted February 2, 2011 Author Report Posted February 2, 2011 Just heard the forecast for the weekend - 5-8 inches on Saturday. I'll be raking my roof again on Friday.
kevin gilmore Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 (edited) I believe this is the first time Northwestern has cancelled classes since 1975 so I think champagne is appropriate. No... No... Grande Champaigne... The good stuff. Delamain cognac, the 60 year old stuff. Glad my roof is steep enough that the snow does not stick. No way i'm getting up 3 stories... jvlgato Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 (edited) look at that cute little snowfall Heh. Cute didn't exactly come to mind. More like, 'Holy Fuck, this is gonna take me hours!' And, 'thank god I don't have a driveway!' But it was really good exercise shoveling the front walkway, and the exit to our garage in the back alleyway four separate times as the city kept plowing the alleyway snow back onto our garage. The pug does not look content, John. Classes cancelled again for tomorrow. 2 1/2 days of cancelled school = super woot. No, the pugs have not enjoyed this winter. And I haven't enjoyed all the poop inside the house from the dramatic increase in 'accidents'. Sorry for all the lost opportunities for learning! Edited February 4, 2011 by jvlgato
jvlgato Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Two more fun shots: My alley. Saw this in the hospital parking lot this AM. Don't think they're going home any time soon!
skullguise Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 I got a frantic call from the wife early last night, she was stuck at the bottom of our driveway..... Couldn't reverse out, couldn't drive up. Apparently, the plows came around to widen the streets, and shoved frozen chunks of plow-poop into the end of our driveway. She thought she could blast through it, and ended up being almost perched on it. Neoghbors were trying to help dig her out, put stuff under the tires to grip, no luck up to the time I got home. It took two grown men plus a somewhat big kid to help push her out, then these awesome neighbors helped us clean the crap up. I am sofa king tired of this crap! But of course, don't ask me to move
Knuckledragger Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 "Sofa King" tired. I am SO using that. I've been more or less immobilized with a nasty cold the last two days, and I've only been outside to get firewood. Tonight I have to do my radio show, so that means actually starting up and driving the poor Subaru. I hope it runs okay, as I have DJ gig at a cocktail party(!) tomorrow. Of course, my little Apple weather widget tells me it's going to snow more tomorrow night.

But of course, don't ask me to move This happened to me yesterday morning. Drive way was spotless except for the chunks of dirt/ice/snow the road plow left at the end of the driveway, I did a half ass job cleaning it up and thought my Civic would be able to plow through it. Got stuck The inside of my garage floor looks disgusting. Chunks of brown ice where the cars park and all the crud underneath the wheel wells which is a PIA to clean.
