The Monkey Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 NYC still getting pounded. But my office, which closed at 3pm yesterday is open. I guess I'll go in. Maybe get drunk at lunch.
grawk Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 We've got about an inch on the pavement. I shovelled my driveway, now I'm off to get my impressions.
Salt Peanuts Posted February 26, 2010 Author Report Posted February 26, 2010 Nothing here, it rained for 3 straight days. Of course, that has resulted in massive flooding for me.
The Monkey Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 yay! Sent from my Eris using Tapatalk

n_maher Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 While this isn't snow this video starts about 5 miles north of my house and is the route I normally take to work. Exeter River Level Rises - Video - WMUR Manchester
Hopstretch Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 Yeah, I just heard it has been upgraded to a 50-year storm, ie. level of rainfall to be expected only once in 50 years on average. It's a mess around here, too. Roads underwater, dams overflowing. Still raining.
Salt Peanuts Posted March 16, 2010 Author Report Posted March 16, 2010 Yeah, the rain has been ridiculous. Though, as I wrote elsewhere, I got off easy with just a flooding basement (ongoing as I can still see the damn water seeping through on the corner where the wall meets the floor).
deepak Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 Hey excellent more rain this week it's not we haven't had a metric pantload already
Salt Peanuts Posted March 22, 2010 Author Report Posted March 22, 2010 Now that my basement is almost dry, we're expecting up to two inches of rain in the next two days. Argh.
n_maher Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 Now that my basement is almost dry, we're expecting up to two inches of rain in the next two days. Argh. Yup, my co-worker who's been fighting this for years finally decided that after this storm he's raising his basement floor 9". I saw the high-water sings were back up on my way to work this morning, should be a fun commute for the next couple days.
Beefy Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Not snow, but my hometown of Perth, Australia got hit by a massive freak storm yesterday. Hail stones the size of golf balls. My old uni was very heavily hit, as was the nearby neighbourhood that my unit is in (which we are renting out). I hope the unit is OK, because I can't afford to repair anything that insurance doesn't cover...... The hall at my old uni. Original >100yr old stained glass windows decimated. And a flooded library. A street near my unit. That is probably a foot of water, which is COMPLETELY unheard of in this part of the world.
Beefy Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Apparently, the airports were both hit severely as well. All power, land and air comms are down......
Knuckledragger Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 It's "wintery mix"-ing on the Vineyard right now. Goes really well with the broken heating system. It's supposed to get into the low 20s tonight. 0_o
Knuckledragger Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 are you on some kind of vacation to Hell? Apparently so. I am officially here to meet with the professionals who will blow up the current house, cart of the debris, and then build a new one. That wasn't sufficiently stressful or headache-inducing, so on top of that we have a dead furnace and sub-freezing weather for the next four days. Three calls to the service dept. of the oil company have elicited a "it's on a tech's work list" response. Until then, I sit tight and try not to freeze solid.
Salt Peanuts Posted March 29, 2010 Author Report Posted March 29, 2010 Again, not snow, but now 3-6 inches expected around here over the next two days. Fuck, fuck, fuckity fuck.
Salt Peanuts Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 No flooding in the basement yet when I left for work this morning, though I could see some seeping at the corner where walls meet the floors. I suspect there will be some water down there when I get home. Imagine the mess if this happened to Reks' basement.
Salt Peanuts Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 Just got home and sure enough, the basement is flooded. Thankfully, it's only 2-3 inches at this point so unless it gets drastically worse, it's manageable with pumps I already have. I can't wait till the basement is waterproofed in a month.
Knuckledragger Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 It has been POURING here in the Vineyard. I'm situated between two ponds, both of which are getting bigger by the moment. The rest of this week should be quite interesting. Pix of the flooding later. Maybe.
n_maher Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Yup, it's been raining hard all day here and the sump pump has been kicking on and off pretty regularly. The rain is supposed to taper off this evening with flood waters peaking tonight and receding tomorrow.
