n_maher Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Deepak, They said Wednesday for me as well but it came on last night. Here's to hoping that they were way off for you as well.
Salt Peanuts Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 Hope you get your power/heat back soon, Deepak.
n_maher Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Grrr, after around 10" yesterday I awoke to this... Forecast for today is 12 to 18".
Salt Peanuts Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Grrr, after around 10" yesterday I awoke to this... Forecast for today is 12 to 18". Similar case down here, though less by about 6 inches. Also, this one's supposed to be wet and heavy. Argh.
boomana Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 It's hard to have sympathy when the photos look so beautiful. Of course I say that white sitting in a t-shirt on my patio and drinking coffee.
Salt Peanuts Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 I snow. The greyhound does not Oh, I love snow, don't get me wrong. It's the shoveling and driving in it that I hate.
Aimless1 Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Friday delivered more than 10 inches here and today we have up to another 10 expected ... but "blizzard like" conditions, ie high winds and low wind chills. Some power outages. No point even trying to clear snow from the driveway/walks until the wind dies down. I consider myself fortunate compared to those of you with no electric and cold temps. Wishing you warmth and restored electrical service.
aerius Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 It's hard to have sympathy when the photos look so beautiful. Of course I say that white sitting in a t-shirt on my patio and drinking coffee. It's all fun & games until you have to shovel it. That's why I live in an apartment.
JBLoudG20 Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 We got about 9 yesterday, anohter 4-5 today, and now it has switched over to sleet. I'll take snow over ice, thanks.
grawk Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 I prefer ice over snow to snow over ice. With snow over ice, you can't see the ice, and the roads are awful.
JBLoudG20 Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 I prefer ice over snow to snow over ice. With snow over ice, you can't see the ice, and the roads are awful. Well yes, but I meant I'd rather have more snow than the ice.
n_maher Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 At 5pm I cleared 12" of snow off the driveway. During the course of the 45min. that it took to clear the driveway I'd say we got at least another half inch. I haven't had the heart to look at it again since I came inside, whatever is out there it'll be there tomorrow morning when I have to deal with it.
Aimless1 Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Easily turned into another 1 foot + of drifting snow that got removed last night. Looks like another 3-4 inches on the drive this a.m. and lucky us, another 4-10 inches forecast for tomorrow. Then apparently it will be capped with freezing rain on Friday & Saturday. Just another fun winter week.
Old Pa Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 That lake effect snow would make me think about moving. As it is, Fall got cold early and then snowy here. We're having a real winter as well. 5-6 inches of snow Saturday into Sunday and then -11F. We're forecast for another 2-6 inches tonight and tomorrow. I am fully refamiliarized with all my snow removal equipment. Nobody is laughing at the full sets of winter tires on both vehicles this year. With almost two feet stacked next to the drive, "space management" is becoming interesting should this keep up.
JBLoudG20 Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 I think I'm odd, but I absolutely LOVE driving in the snow. I love every minute of it. It's a challenge, and its damn fun. I drive my doglegged, non-snow tire equipped, slammed to 2.5" ground clearance G20, and its an absolute blast. *knock on wood* I have never gotten permanently stuck. I have my issues at times, especially with lack of clearance, but I always make it out fine.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) You have a deathwish from being molested as a child. DC: No snow, but it's fucking cold. Barely achieving 30 today. Edited December 22, 2008 by Dusty Chalk
Pars Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 I'd take 30 degrees... its 2 here right now (Chi). Yesterday's high was -3
grawk Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Give me -10 instead of 15 any day. I miss alaska
aardvark baguette Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 DC: No snow, but it's fucking cold. Barely achieving 30 today. After showering, I got in the car to go to work and noticed my hair was freezing in clumps. Nippy.

It's ~27 today... a little cold this morning, but very little hope of snow down here. It's one of the things I miss from the north. North Carolina makes up for it in other ways though.... namely biscuits and gravy.
Salt Peanuts Posted December 22, 2008 Author Report Posted December 22, 2008 namely biscuits and gravy. [Homer]Mmmm, gravy, is there anything you can't do?[/Homer]
grawk Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 biscuits and gravy...mmm biscuitville, how I love thee.
