Dusty Chalk Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 Right now it's just sleeting. Still not going out in it. Google car crashes winter edition -- I won't link it because I'm pretty sure at least one of them includes a death -- and this is in Russia (mostly), where people should know how to drive in the snow. It only takes one idiot -- and I have a tendency to get impatient, so that idiot could well be me. EDIT: Okay, sometime between the last two times I looked out, it changed to snow and is accumulating.
Dreadhead Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 It's coming down hard here and more importantly it's not that windy so I am hoping that our power will stay on. I am kicking myself that I didn't get a portable generator hookup done when we were getting work done in the spring. Stupid... 1
VPI Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 Wind is supposed to get here tomorrow morning I think. Managed to go get emergency supplies before the snow. The only milk in the store was dark chocolate almond milk, but I did get several bottles of wine so I should be good. 2
ironbut Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 Stay safe you guys! Anybody heard of using hybrid cars with inverters for emergency generators? After I bought my Prius I've been curious about this.
skullguise Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 My wife loves that almond milk....she'd like wine better, but too many calories....and not chocolate
HeadphoneAddict Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 We're having great weather here after the last snow - our yard is still covered in 6" of snow, but it's 53 degrees and I went out to run errands without needing to wear a jacket. But Duke canceled my daughter's classes due to freezing rain.

Dreadhead Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 Just started first round of shoveling and one shovel broke and the other is failing. Nowhere has them in stock either. FML.
Dusty Chalk Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 I can't find mine. Fortunately, all I have to shovel out is my car.
aardvark baguette Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 First quickie shovel done. emphasis on quick! Holy fuck, I am never going back to normal shovels. Except for stairs. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ru6117p3v1apkly/2016-01-22%2016.51.59.jpg?dl=0 1
VPI Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 Did a bit of shoveling and brushed off the Subaru. Now 5 minutes later it looks like I never even stepped outside. 32 minutes ago, Dreadhead said: #McGuyver mothersfucker That should be a good 3 extra seconds of shoveling you get with that handy work.
grawk Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 I got a snow blower 3 days ago. I imagine tomorrow will be busy playing with it.

bozebuttons Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 Nothing here yet, should start early am.Serviced the snowblower & generator both ready to go when & if needed.

Really? Maybe I don't have a mental image where you're at. I thought you were right in the path: 1
GrindingThud Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 5.5in here already (southern maryland)....coming down heavy. Good night for tunes. Tried shoveling and wind put it back.

grawk Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 I assume my driveway looks like no one has looked at it since the snowing started
VPI Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 I am thinking I might have some kinks to work out of my emergency plan to use the grills for cooking in a power outage. 7
aardvark baguette Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 My plan was to be up the entire night and scoop snow every 2 inches. fell asleep. Nowhere to scoop snow, I'm back to the old shovel. I've been thwarted. Leaned against the car this morning during a quick rest. An hour or so later inside I look at my car and see the back door open. Leave your key fab inside! this sucks.
GrindingThud Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 Heat pumps whirring away...ready for round 2! 1
grawk Posted January 23, 2016 Report Posted January 23, 2016 my snow blower died at the bottom of the first pass on my driveway. I guess I'm supposed to relax this weekend. 5
