shellylh Posted December 14, 2015 Report Posted December 14, 2015 I seriously doubt that flight was delayed because of snow in Houston (unless there was a big cocaine bust at the airport). 4
acidbasement Posted December 15, 2015 Report Posted December 15, 2015 There's thick hoar frost on the power lines and we've got a Colorado Low moving in tomorrow night. Expecting 5-20 cm of snow, and I will be really surprised if we don't lose power.
tyrion Posted December 15, 2015 Report Posted December 15, 2015 Hopefully power stays on Iain. We got 5" overnight of the good snow, on the mountain snow. Only problem is it is supposed to continue all day. I do not enjoy skiing while it's snowing due to poor visibility and I am not the greatest powder skier as evidenced by my fall 2 years ago resulting in shoulder surgery. I will be very cautious today. 1
acidbasement Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 Do you know how to snowboard, Mike? I don't think I've ever had more fun than snowboarding in fresh powder. The new forecast has us only getting 2-4 cm, so that's okay. Just went lake skating and it was awesome. 3

I ski and today turned out to be a blast. So far it's been an awesome three days of skiing. 5
Knuckledragger Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Meanwhile here in scenic western Taxachusetts, it's late September out.

Yeah, it's getting seriously weird to not have seen anything resembling snow yet. I saw a half dozen or so flaws a month ago and it was 60 yesterday. WTF.
guzziguy Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Reminds me of the Christmas ski trip I once made with a friend and his father to North Conway. All night long on Christmas Eve we heard "drip, drip, drip" as the snow melted. Needless to say, conditions weren't great in the morning.
Absorbine_Sr Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 We got hit with sleet and freezing rain today. And of course I had a dentist appointment. My normal 30 minute drive was doubled. Lots of cars off the road, in ditches etc. At least it proved that the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 tires were a good winter choice. Tire Rack rated them highly for ice and snow and after today's drive I'd agree.
Pars Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 Glad you got there and back in this shit Mike. I am interested in those Contis for my Accord when I replace tires fairly soon. Unfortunately Discount Tire doesn't carry them, and I like having their road hazard warranty. Might have to see if I can impose upon them to get some. The Michelins on there from the factory have been good tires however.
Aimless1 Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 Facing the same shit for the ride home tonight. 1' sleet, 1' snow and 1/4 inch ice. Joy.

Tire Rack will ship them to you and recommend an installer in their certified installer program. I just drive to South Bend and have them do the install Edited December 28, 2015 by Absorbine_Sr
Aura Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 I just ordered new winter boots. My old pair was beyond shitty and I had forgotten until my feet were soaked this afternoon walking the dog for a whole three minutes. We're not driving any goddamn place the next 36 hours.

grawk Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 I bought my contis from the tire shop 1/2 mile from work. They were only $50 more than tire rack, and it was way less hassle, and no wait.
Salt Peanuts Posted December 29, 2015 Author Report Posted December 29, 2015 (edited) Predictably, I'll be seeing the first snow of the season (8-12 inches) while at my parents' house. So for 3rd consecutive years, I'll be shoveling at my parents house for the holidays. Edited December 29, 2015 by Salt Peanuts

I didn't, and had to come back for the other two weeks later.
VPI Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 Well based upon the beyond comprehension mess caused by 1 inch of snow last night, I am predicting DC explodes when 3 feet of snow drops on us Friday-Saturday. 2
skullguise Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 Yeah, that was some fucked up video I saw. While I bet they will be better prepared for the next I one, the pure volume will be overwhelming. Looks like northern MA will escape this one for the most part. But my son was still called in tonight and tomorrow to work 5 hour night shifts at the supermarket. Sucks because he has a test tomorrow; maybe they'll let him bow out or leave early tonight now that the storm doesn't look to impact as strongly.....
Dusty Chalk Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 It took a friend of mine 4 hours not to get home last night. There was one hill, in particular, that basically no-one could get up. It was just a sheet of ice.

n_maher Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 International flights are already being impacted. I've got a colleague stranded in Mexico with his family. While that initially sounds fun my experience is that in resort areas finding supplemental lodging beyond your original trip duration can be incredibly expensive and problematic. On the plus side for the mid-Atlantic region - you may get to experience THUNDERSNOW, which is sort of like a Sharknado, but not really.
skullguise Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 Already seeing some snow reports, just stay safe & warm everyone in the path!
Hopstretch Posted January 22, 2016 Report Posted January 22, 2016 Good luck all! If you run out of TP remember to wipe with the left. 1
