Salt Peanuts Posted March 9, 2013 Author Report Posted March 9, 2013 Much to my amazement, shoveling this time around was less tiring and less time consuming than the last big one we had. It helped the snow clumped together well, which meant it was heavier but I didn't have to shovel the same damn spot 9 times. Quote
acidbasement Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 What in the actual fuck? Spring officially starts in four days, and we're still getting significant accumulations and zero melting. This winter sucks. Quote
n_maher Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Yup, there's more white BS in the forecast for Tuesday morning here as well. We're definitely getting melting though as a significant amount of the ground cover disappeared this week so at least we're trending better than you. Quote
Salt Peanuts Posted March 19, 2013 Author Report Posted March 19, 2013 So it looks like its going to be snow all day as opposed to changing into rain (thus, melting snow) early in the day as it was initially predicted. At least there should be slightly less ice on the road this afternoon/tonight. Quote
n_maher Posted March 19, 2013 Report Posted March 19, 2013 It was a reasonably crappy commute in this morning and not one that I would have wanted to do in a 2wd car. Quote
oogabooga Posted March 19, 2013 Report Posted March 19, 2013 Expecting up to 8 inches here in Montreal. Global warming my ass... Quote
morphsci Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 WTF! At least 4 in. with more on the way. Quote
acidbasement Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 (edited) Yeah, we're getting a small bit of daytime melting here too, though it was -23 C this morning. Here are some musings from John Green: Edited March 26, 2013 by acidbasement Quote
acidbasement Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) Okay Americans, how good is the Interstate snow clearing team? My wife and I are planning a trip to Minneapolis tomorrow, but there is a nasty ice/snow storm happening now. Info on the storm. I believe the precipitation is supposed to be over by tonight. What do you think? Will the interstate be safe by tomorrow? Edited April 11, 2013 by acidbasement Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 It depends on the area -- if you said DC, I'd say, "nay", but it's Minneapolis -- don't they have snowplows 365 days/year? My guess: you'll be alright. Quote
Voltron Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 Minnesota doesn't slow down for snow or ice. The road will be clear and you'll be fine. Quote
acidbasement Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 Thanks - that's what I figured. In Manitoba the snowplows get to work pretty quickly, but salting the ice away can take awhile. You guys tend to be a lot more serious about your road maintenance south of the border. Quote
grawk Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 lately it seems like they pre-salt the roads, so the interstate is almost always clear if it's above -20. Quote

Voltron Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 ^Wow, fuck that! It's going to be over 80 in SF, which is sweltering for us. Quote
Augsburger Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 Well, I will be in Chicago/IN next Thursday so please have your weather guys get their act together and warm things up a bit for me. Forecast is for low to mid 90s through this weekend. Quote
n_maher Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 Crikey, it's 70 here today. I had an off-island site visit this morning which made it particularly painful to come back to the office. Quote

Forecast is for low to mid 90s through this weekend. It's perfect here today -- we only get a few of these each year. I'm quitting early to go play tennis. It looks like typical Chicago spring weather for the next week or so. Edited May 1, 2013 by dsavitsk Quote
