Tyll Hertsens Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 It's been glorious here in Montana. Nicest fall I've seen for 25 years. Sorry 'bout the snow, guys.
n_maher Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Lost power last night at 7:30 with less than 2" on the ground. It was 57 in the house when we got up this morning around 7 with 4 to 6" of slush/snow. We drove over 30min to find a Dunkin Do's that had power to get some coffee and breakfast and waste some time to see if it would come back on. Waited in line for 35 minutes at DoDo's but was grateful we got their when we did since the line was 4x as long when I left as when I got in line. Called a few places to see about generators, got laugheinutd at, so we packed up the family and headed to the nearest inlaws who had gotten power back on 5 minutes before we were set to head to my parents who are over an hour away. While at the inlaws I found one generator available another half hour away, paid for it over the phone and left to pick it up. Got lots of angry looks when I picked it up and predictably drove home to set it up only to find that the power had been restored. But I'm happy to have it for the piece of mind and there are still folks less than 1/4 mile away who don't have power yet. There's talk that some won't have it for a week or more and on the way home I passed a tractor trailer truck loaded full of commercial transformers so it'll certainly be a while for those folks. What a friggen mess.
Salt Peanuts Posted October 30, 2011 Author Report Posted October 30, 2011 Just finished rearranging our living room so we can use the fireplace. We sectioned off the room so it'll at least keep the room warm. Wife and daughter will probably end up going to the in-laws if the power's not back on in the next day or so.
grawk Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Our power came back on just after noon. We have quite a few trees that are down, but luckily, our power came back before our food went bad. Good luck Salty.
Salt Peanuts Posted October 31, 2011 Author Report Posted October 31, 2011 We got lucky and staying with one of my friends who still has power. Our food, on the other hand, is shot since we had to open our fridge to get the antibiotc out for Libby's ear infection.
boomana Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Wowza, guys. It's hard for me to even picture snow, let alone this early. Stay safe and warm!
shellylh Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Jeez guys, sorry to hear about the snow and power outages. Hope you guys stay warm whatever way you can. Really sucks. We're actually having the best weather we've had in months (high of 72 today, I had to wear my fleece jacket).

Salt Peanuts Posted October 31, 2011 Author Report Posted October 31, 2011 So my daughter's daycare is closed indefinitely due to power outage. Thankfully, my wife's off today as well due to power outage at her school today. Here's hoping the power at my wife's school doesn't come back before the one at daycare.
skullguise Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 (edited) We didn't lose power, but lost all cable services (phone/internet/TV). Wasn't too bad, though it's still out. I was out at 11:15 pm Saturday night, cutting some weighted-down branches from an aging dogwood tree that had fell against a bay window, thankfully no damage to house. Then cleared 4-5" of slush from driveway yesterday, and cut and dragged off several more large branches down..... Son's school cancelled today, also has no school tomorrow. May have to bring him into work with me if we don't have services still Hope everyone gets power and all back soon! Take care all! EDIT: BTW, Halloween trick-or-treating in our town postponed until next weekend..... Edited October 31, 2011 by skullguise
jvlgato Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Wow, unbelievable - waaay too early for that much snow! Good luck to you all. I've read it is predicted that it will be a very tough winter here in the midwest, I wonder if this is an indication of that.
morphsci Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Early, wet snow is evil. Keep warm and dry everyone.
n_maher Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 Outstanding, Haj! I was beginning to think that a HC mission of mercy was going to be required and I was going to have to drive the new gennie down to your place.
skullguise Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 Yay indeed, glad things are getting back to normal.... Our neighbors got their power back yesterday, and I also came home last night to internet/phone/TV working. I actually saw the Boston bruins WIN a game
HeadphoneAddict Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 We got about 7-8" of snow with the storm last Wednesday, which came up to our dog's belly when she'd go outside, but we only got about 2-3" last night. So nothing major here yet, not even a snow day for the kid's school.
swt61 Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 Well your cold weather has made it here in the form of a front. Today will be a high of 69. Yay cold fronts!!! Finally some comfortable weather!
Spareribs Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Good to hear that the power is back.
ecclesand Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 We got about 7-8" of snow with the storm last Wednesday, which came up to our dog's belly when she'd go outside, but we only got about 2-3" last night. So nothing major here yet, not even a snow day for the kid's school. Down south, we got close to a foot with the last storm. This winter is gonna suck!

Steve, perhaps the reason that straight guys may claim 9" when it's really closer to 5" is they've never felt the difference...
Tyll Hertsens Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 Got our first snow on the ground here today. Didn't get the leaves raked. Guess I'll see them again sometime in May.
guzziguy Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 Finally broke down and turned on the heat last night. A storm came through yesterday and last night was our first really cold night. I was tired of waking up to find it 61.
