fierce_freak Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 In the past I've liked Neutrik's connectors best for RCA, but I haven't tried anything more boutique, yet. When it comes to binding posts, I'm pretty clueless on what is quality and what isn't. What is everyones' favorites?
tkam Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 I've had these recommended to me in the past: http://www.musicdirect.com/product/73429 For RCA plugs I've always liked the Eichmann Bullet Plugs.
n_maher Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 I've had good luck with the ones from Parts Express. I used the lesser expensive type on my first beta22 but will be using the big dogs on my second, balanced beta. Important note: they're all gold, you're just seeing the reflection of the black chassis in this picture.
Pars Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 I had the Edison Price posts that Tkam referenced on a Hafler amp I used to have and they were very nice... I like them much better than whatever is on my Odyssey, but I'm just too damn lazy to do anything about it For RCAs (chassis mount), I've used the Daytons (Partsexpress), the Cardas CFTA (the cheap ones... MisterX turned me onto those), and some I got from diyfidelity down under which I haven't actually put on anything yet but look good (damn are they tight!). If you want to spend big bucks, my recommendation (without actually using them) would be the Vampire CM1FCB or CM2FCB which are direct gold plate over OFC copper. Only $20 a pair (actually not that bad unless you need 10 pairs...). Or there's always WBT for insane prices... The WBT Nextgen is supposedly 75 ohms when used with the corresponding cable connector, but I haven't seen anyone verify that and would attribute it to mktg. BS until I do. Even so, if you need 75 ohms, BNC is the way to go...
n_maher Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 As far as cable-mount RCA's go, Pro-fi's are the ticket for me. Chassis mount I'm with Pars, CTFA or I use the "Tiffany Style" from Partsconnexion.com.
fierce_freak Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 Thanks for the suggestions on the binding posts, guys. As far as RCA, I like the Profi's, too, and was hoping someone could compare them to the pricier stuff like Eichmann, WBT, Vampire/XHADOW, or LOK. I've used Neutrik RCA jacks as well up to this point, and I've used some of the jacks at partsconnexion in some stuff I've done for other people, but I haven't actually compared the two.
n_maher Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 I freely admit that I do not have the time or patience to try and listen for the differences in connectors. That's beyond my personal threshold of madness.
hYdrociTy Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 to put it into perspective, the thousand dollar discontinued nordost valkyrjas, among present models such as the blue heaven and red dawn use the neutrik profi rca plugs(the smart asses decided to rebadge them as Nordost 'Moonglo' connectors) i like them too.
fierce_freak Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 lol, I'm going to scratch moonglo into the sides of my pro-fi connectors, ahha. i'll have to give the tiffany style rca jacks a try, I suppose.
n_maher Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 i'll have to give the tiffany style rca jacks a try, I suppose. They're cheaper than the CTFAs so what do you have to lose?
bhjazz Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 I'll throw in another voteee for Cardas. Once I learned to drill part of them for a nice isolated ground (if'n you should need it) they were great. 45 minutes left at work. \/\/00t!
