thrice Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 Hmm, I wonder if Leopard has something to do with it. I'll give it a shot again when I have more time. It might, dig around here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12 Since SqueezeCenter is still in Beta form they're ironing the bugs out.
Salt Peanuts Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 Well, I just installed the SqueezeCenter again and it's now working fine. I think doing the clean install helped.
The Monkey Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 I like the SB3 in principle and in sound. But I don't love the executiom. Specifically, I'm not a big fan of the interface on the SB3 end. I wish there weren't so many steps to go through/submenus/etc.
n_maher Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 I wish there weren't so many steps to go through/submenus/etc. I've given this a fair amount of thought and having spent devices that did not offer as complete a hierarchical setup the browsing is actually more complex and cumbersome on the "simpler" device.

Nate, have you tried the Sonos product? It looks like it has a "better" interface, but at a much higher price point. I haven't had a chance to try it.
n_maher Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 At a minimum of 2.5x the price I'm not sure even I could justify it but I was just talking last night about doing something stupid so...

n_maher Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 Or, you could just get yourself a Transporter and mod the hell out of it. Nah, before I did that I'd just build a custom enclosure for an SB-3 coupled with the Hertsens DAC plus another sigma11 for the SB. Don't think the thought hasn't crossed my mind to build a Transporter killer. For now this stack does just fine.
Salt Peanuts Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 I keep forgetting about your DAC - I assume you're still liking it?
n_maher Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 I keep forgetting about your DAC - I assume you're still liking it? Between it and the Wadia I'm not lacking for good sound, no.
tkam Posted December 28, 2007 Author Report Posted December 28, 2007 Well I've re-arranged all my gear since the arrival of the new tv stand so I think I'll give the Squeezebox a try since I'll be able to see its display relatively easily and can just use that interface.
n_maher Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I like both of mine, that's for sure. And you can adjust the font size to be more viewable if you're sitting kind of far away.
socrates63 Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 Nate, I'm pretty sure I read a post where you said the SB3 was an average transport at best. I've been thinking of getting one (still kicking myself for missing out on tyrion's). Have you ever compared the SB3 to the CD73 for transport duties? I'm currently using my iRiver H140 with my VDA-2, but it's not a good transport. The iRiver SlimX sounds better as a transport than the H140 (ALAC files).

Have you ever compared the SB3 to the CD73 for transport duties?I haven't, but I have stuff setup right now to do a couple of transport, source comparisons so I'll get on that. I'd wager that what you read was something about the SB3 being a pretty average stand-alone source, I don't really ever remember talking about it as a transport.
tkam Posted January 5, 2008 Author Report Posted January 5, 2008 Have had the SB3 setup for a few days now and I've using the latest beta of the Squeeze Center 7 and it seems much more responsive than I remember the older versions of Slim Server being. Of course I'm still mostly using the remote and devices interface directly.
The Monkey Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 Now that the iPhone can be used to control iTunes, a setup of iPhone + Airtunes + DAC + Amp is looking kinda interesting.
n_maher Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 Now that the iPhone can be used to control iTunes, a setup of iPhone + Airtunes + DAC + Amp is looking kinda interesting. Awfully expensive for a remote, isn't it?
The Monkey Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 Awfully expensive for a remote, isn't it? I didn't say it was practical. But yes, it's an expensive remote, but it does begin to solve my issues with the Squeezebox interface. EDIT: I *think* the Touch can also be used as a remote.

tkam Posted January 17, 2008 Author Report Posted January 17, 2008 but do you really want a remote whose batteries drain that fast and needs to be constantly charged
The Monkey Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 I'm currently lusting after the SB-duet, solves my issues with one device. That does look awesome. Probably a good time to sell the SB3...
tkam Posted January 18, 2008 Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 I'm currently lusting after the SB-duet, solves my issues with one device. The remote does look pretty slick but I don't like that the main device/base unit doesn't have any display at all. Thats a total deal breaker for me.

Thats a total deal breaker for me. Agreed, it would be best if it worked as a remote for any Squeezebox device, which it might, I can't remember.

Thats a total deal breaker for me. Same here. Agreed, it would be best if it worked as a remote for any Squeezebox device, which it might, I can't remember. It does, but it costs $300. For that price, I'd rather just grab another SB3.
