aerius Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 Earlier today I came across the pictures from ETF '07. http://www.dhtrob.com/etf/index.php?start=23 This is a picture of a totally out there headphone amplifier using transmitting tubes. Those tubes are around 7" tall, and the plate dissipation is up to 100W. For a pair of headphones. And though it's not a headphone amp, this is just stunning.
philodox Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 Cool, that guy looks REALLY enthusiastic in the second pic you linked.
hYdrociTy Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 The face of a the one who paid for the power bill
philodox Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 It's not on their website yet. Sadly, they only have the 812A version of the Kopfhorerverstarker at the moment. http://www.silvercore.de/index.php?id=22,69,0,0,1,0
humanflyz Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 that's not overkill at all. With transmitter tubes, I can finally turn it up to 11.
philodox Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 Was just looking through some of the other pics. These three are my favourite: http://www.dhtrob.com/etf/index.php?start=14 http://www.dhtrob.com/etf/index.php?start=28 http://www.dhtrob.com/etf/index.php?start=85 Also, Eaphan, I think you've found the promise land. With most amps in attendance looking something like this... http://www.dhtrob.com/etf/index.php?start=56 ...it looks like you'd fit right in.
spritzer Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 ETF is one of the few audio shows I'd like to attend. Lats year some engineers at Philips recreated the original triode to celebrate its 100. anniversary and they even built an amp around it. Way too cool!
riceboy Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 Earlier today I came across the pictures from ETF '07. http://www.dhtrob.com/etf/index.php?start=23 This is a picture of a totally out there headphone amplifier using transmitting tubes. That amp looks really sweet
Dusty Chalk Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 http://www.dhtrob.com/etf/index.php?start=14What the L is that, a passive attenuator? Are these bare wires? And capacitors? Doing what? They look like friggin' batteries. My favourite. Sweet ride
Grand Enigma Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 What the L is that, a passive attenuator? Are these bare wires? My favourite. Sweet ride Whishy duh!
spritzer Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 Whats not to like, huge DIY tube amps and Quad ESL speakers... my view of heaven... :'(
darkless Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 <snip>and the plate dissipation is up to 100W. For a pair of headphones. Not unlike my now-almost-complete headamp... it can be equipped with 7241 tubes and their plate dissipation is also up to 100W. Running two of them in parallel for each output channel... now THAT'S overkill. Sweet amp pictures, aerius!
philodox Posted December 7, 2007 Report Posted December 7, 2007 Dusty, those caps are insane eh? I love it.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 7, 2007 Report Posted December 7, 2007 Looks like you could defribilate with those.
fierce_freak Posted December 7, 2007 Report Posted December 7, 2007 There are some pretty cool pics there. I remember seeing an amp using transmitting tubes on Pete Millet's page, I think.
aerius Posted December 8, 2007 Author Report Posted December 8, 2007 What the L is that, a passive attenuator? Yup. Given the tendencies of the ETF crowd, chances are it's a transformer volume control. Are these bare wires? And capacitors? Doing what? They look like friggin' batteries. I don't think they're bare wires, but it's hard to tell. And yes, those are capacitors, 3.15kV 6.3uF units to be precise. Scaling from the resistors they're at least the size of a 1lb coffee tin, and they'll kill you dead.
