ph0rk Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Killing Joke - They get better and better with time, like a fine wine or cheese. The White Stripes - Hyped as all hell yes, but simple composition is an art, imho. I disliked them at first too. Primus - what's not to love?
grawk Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 If there isn't someone who doesn't get the music a band is doing, they're probably not trying hard enough...
ojnihs Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Primus - what's not to love? me likely primus
JBLoudG20 Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 me likely primus If you really are primus, would you please do me a favor and end yourself?
ojnihs Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 If you really are primus, would you please do me a favor and end yourself? well being that I am on antidepressants, i could just as easily get off of them and we can see where it goes
Dusty Chalk Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Killing Joke - They get better and better with time, like a fine wine or cheese.Yeah! That self-titled album was a slayer, wunnit? Me: Kylie Minogue -- Yeah, I know, she's got a not-small audience, but most of the people I know (read: indie music hipster snobs) have only heard of her, and all they know is that she's some knicker-on-stage-wearing disco pop-diva-bimbo, and have no idea what I see in her. "[noembed] [/noembed]" is a synth-pop masterpiece (warning: the video is probably a little too much for anyone who is even remotely homophobic to watch more than once -- cracks me up, though -- the irony of having one of the hottest women in the world surrounded by a bunch of [wink wink nudge nudge] male model types is not lost on me). *Hey, Todd, why isn't "noembed" working? Did I use it incorrectly?
Dusty Chalk Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 well being that I am on antidepressants, i could just as easily get off of them and we can see where it goes I think he was making fun of the fact that you said "likely" instead of "likey". Oh, and anyone knows the correct response is: Primus sucks.
ojnihs Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 I think he was making fun of the fact that you said "likely" instead of "likey". Oh, and anyone knows the correct response is: Primus sucks. damn...how'd i miss that? where's reks with his joke about my observation skills?
John D. Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Grateful Dead ;D Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band
ph0rk Posted November 30, 2007 Author Report Posted November 30, 2007 Yeah! That self-titled album was a slayer, wunnit? Like an explosion in your head Never heard 40-somethings rock quite like that. Jaz was 43 when KJ 2003 was released. As an aside, I knew my current Girlfriend loved me when she went to the Raleigh schoolkids records and bought their only copy for me on release day, before I even got there. (Man I was mad they sold out though!)
en480c4 Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 For me it's probably Rasputina. I know some people here can appreciate them, but most of my friends look at my like I'm crazy when I tell them I like something that can be described as "Neo-Victorian Chamber Rock". But I heart the cello, and I heart Melora and her wacky musical and lyrical sensibilities, so it's as good as it gets for me.
fierce_freak Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Primus - what's not to love? x2...Have you heard Les Claypool's "Of Whales and Woe?" Fucking fantastic. -edit- I'm sure there are quite a few bands I love that most don't get (including most of my metal stuff), but I'm pretty sure I couldn't think of most of them. Some of the other stuff: ohGr, Polyphonic Spree, Dog Fashion Disco. Then there are those few mainstream bands I love that I never seem to find others loving, like Third Eye Blind or Presidents of the United States of America. I'll have to go through my library when I get home to see what I'm forgetting.
Fungi Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Kylie Minogue is good stuff for sure, but I don't think she makes her music? And I thought Captain Beefheart were pretty token?
deepak Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 well being that I am on antidepressants, i could just as easily get off of them and we can see where it goes You don't need antidepressants, depression isn't a medical dealy /Tom Cruise
deepak Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 don't be glib, deepak. I hope he's not so serious that he can't joke about it Or at least laugh at Tom Cruise (he's in med school, I'm sure he hates the Cruise too)
deepak Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 "don't be glib" is one of the things Tom Cruise said in that interview. or something to that effect, anyway. Ah alright. So I don't completely derail this thread: I suppose a band that most people don't "get" is Bohren and Der Club of Gore. Or Sunn O))).
ojnihs Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 I hope he's not so serious that he can't joke about it Or at least laugh at Tom Cruise (he's in med school, I'm sure he hates the Cruise too) Tom Cruise is a fucking nut job and a moron. I think the Celexa is working well enough for me that I can joke around about it.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 Kylie Minogue is good stuff for sure, but I don't think she makes her music?I think that's really her voice there singing, but I don't think she pretends to play the guitar or sit at a keyboard, so who cares? I think we stopped caring about that in 1990. L, even Depeche Mode got outside producers to help when Alan Wilder left them.
aerius Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 Kylie Minogue is good stuff for sure, but I don't think she makes her music? You're right, she doesn't make music, she makes softcore porn videos(nsfw)
Dusty Chalk Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 See also: the Agent Provocateur commercial And: you say that like it's a bad thing. And: the two are not mutually exclusive.
Thelonious Monk Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 most black metal & death metal i listen to.
catscratch Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 Nile's "Black Seeds of Vengeance" and "In Their Darkened Shrines" are the two best metal albums I've ever heard. Somehow, though, they don't exactly go over well when played to an unsuspecting audience
