blessingx Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 New Kindles start shipping today... two days early. Quote
jinp6301 Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 sweet, i think im getting a free (probably the older gen) kindle. whoo, sign up rewards for amex! Quote
Salt Peanuts Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 UPS won't deliver on Saturday unless you paid specifically for it. As for whether or not you'll get it today, is the package already at the local distribution center? If so, you might get it today. Quote
Salt Peanuts Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 Weird that nothing has shown up on the tracking for almost 8 hours - UPS is usually really good with that in my experience. If it turns out they won't deliver today and it shows up at the local customer/distribution center, maybe you can call them to let you pick it up tomorrow? I've managed to do that once few years ago. Quote
HeadphoneAddict Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 UPS allowed me to pick up my WES on a Saturday, instead of waiting till Monday. I don't know if that was an exception to the rule or not. Quote
blessingx Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Congrats x2. BTW, how do you like that social underline feature? And anyone here use the experimental MP3 support for music? Kindle and JH13s - ultimate portable brain food? Quote
blessingx Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 i have that feature turned off Seems the first adjustment everyone makes. does the experimental player only play MP3s? i haven't tried it yet. Not sure about the fancy new models, but that was the case with older ones. Haven't tried myself, nor heard anyone review. With double the storage may be more useful for new Kindles. Quote
shellylh Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 I miss reading on the Kindle. The last two books I read (still reading the second technically) were paperbacks... we bought them for the beach. Quote
Salt Peanuts Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Not just a Kindle thing, but I'm still hoping for syncing between ebooks and audiobooks. I've been using audible/audiobooks for a while now, but the rate at which I'm going through them has crawled ever since we moved (shorter commute). It would be nice if I could start reading a book at where I stopped listening and then start listening at where I stopped reading. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 You can almost do that with the Kindle with the speech synthesizer capability, but that's not the same as audiobooking it. Quote
Salt Peanuts Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Yeah, I realize it won't happen anytime soon (if ever). I was mostly day-dreaming of my ideal book reading/listening scenario. Quote
blessingx Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Yeah, I realize it won't happen anytime soon (if ever). I was mostly day-dreaming of my ideal book reading/listening scenario. I think I missed the Eva Mendes part. Quote
HeadphoneAddict Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 the Amazon kindle cover with the built in light is pretty nice, though i'm not sure i'm going to use the light all that often. I got the Nook cover with light, and really appreciate the light for when the room is not bright. As I get older I don't do as well reading in dim light. Quote
blessingx Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 For those of us with the ancient models... [url=http://www.woot.com/special.aspx?k=dilettante]Woot Quote
Salt Peanuts Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Has anyone used the new Amazon case w/ light? I'm thinking of getting a Kindle for my wife but a good light is a must and was wondering how good (or not good) the lighting from the case. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 If it's the one I'm thinking of, my co-worker got it, and she's very happy with it. It doubles the weight of the kindle, but she treasures her kindle, so is willing to put up with that for those time she needs the light. And it's really cool, it has a locking latch/dock-y thing that holds it in place, so no more elastic bands. Seems pretty secure. Quote
Salt Peanuts Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Thanks guys, I'll probably get the case w/ light then, assuming the wife does actually want a Kindle. Quote
Salt Peanuts Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 if she doesn't, you do. Unfortunately, I'm out of fun money for next month or two (or three). Quote
