n_maher Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 i've read about 3000 pages on the iPhone, though the Kindle App. it rocks. can't wait until i get a Kindle. I read a good portion of the Count of Monte Cristo on my iPod Touch via Stanza and it worked great. It has me considering a Kindle if they ever get the book pricing in line.
postjack Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 I honestly have not had much success reading on my iPhone through Stanza. For some reason my upper back gets all tight and stressed at work when I try to for any significant length of time.
tkam Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 fyi kindle 2 now down to $299 [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Amazons-Wireless-Reading-Generation/dp/B00154JDAI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1247082671&sr=8-1]Amazon.com: Kindle: Amazon's 6" Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation): Electronics[/ame]
tyrion Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 I wonder if I can get $50 back on mine. Not sure of return policy. I will take this opportunity to plug it again, it's a great device.
Dusty Chalk Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Anyone manage to grab Kindle_src_2.0.3_327610024.tar.gz ? I tried googling and found nothing. I did find 2.0.2. Wanted to look into rewriting it as a second display (not like a CRT display, but perhaps on request, sending a page to it, so that I could use it for reading.

jinp6301 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Question for kindle users, is the 3g only for downloading books or does it work with web browsing as well?
shellylh Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 At least on the DX version, I have been able to browse the web for free from anywhere I have been. So I guess the answer is "yes" at least for the DX version. Oh yeah, the Kindle DX is great! Question for kindle users, is the 3g only for downloading books or does it work with web browsing as well?
penger Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Barnes & Noble 'Nook' e-reader with color touchscreen out Tuesday for $259, says WSJ (update: Best Buy connection?) If it actually looks like the one in the picture... color me interested.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Anyone ever heard of Bookeen? Small is good. Although after looking at the B&N pic, it might have competition. Small and color is better.
Wmcmanus Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Anyone ever heard of Bookeen? Small is good. Yes, small is good. I'm waiting for the JH13 reader! Where are you when we need you, Jerry?
robm321 Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Small FTW - no interest in that big clipboard thingy anymore after seeing someone at a coffee shop reading one and they looked funny holding that big flat thing while reading.
Wmcmanus Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Small FTW - no interest in that big clipboard thingy anymore after seeing someone at a coffee shop reading one and they looked funny holding that big flat thing while reading. Funny, ha ha? Funny, ain't that strange? Or funny, gender confused?
Sherwood Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 This seems like the appropriate place to inform you all of the Barns & Noble Nook. Comes out end of November.
manaox2 Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Funny, ha ha? Funny, ain't that strange? Or funny, gender confused? Many people I see at coffee shops other then Starbucks tend to be all three. At least I personally don't think I look gender confused, on the other hand I don't frequent coffee shops much. This seems like the appropriate place to inform you all of the Barns & Noble Nook. Comes out end of November. That looks cool. Looks like they are going to make it proprietary format as well since you will need their special software to read books on other devices. I like the lend feature.
MexicanDragon Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Interesting. The B&N Nook is running Android 1.5, and says it will work with Android apps as well. I know many will be only usable over wifi, but interesting nonetheless. The ability to "loan" books to friends with BB, iPhone/iPod Touch... This is the first of the e-book readers to really pique my interest. **BRENT**
Sherwood Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Also, it supports eReader and ePub right out of the gate, which is incomparably useful. I'm sure the B&N books are in a proprietary format, but that doesn't really matter when the open formats are supported as well, unless you're (reasonably) afraid of losing all your purchased content later down the line when Barnes & Noble is swallowed whole by the beast.
grawk Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 reportedly supports google's new format, too
Sherwood Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I can't know until I hold one, and read reviews by people more informed than me, but all this open support out of the gate looks extremely promising. This will very likely replace my Sony PRS-500, which has been a faithful companion for years.
robm321 Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Funny, ha ha? Funny, ain't that strange? Or funny, gender confused? Actually, it may be me just not being used to seeing them used before. It looked like a lady was staring and a thin cutting board. It will probably be very normal before too long I'm sure.
riceboy Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I am very interested in the Nook. It seems like it is the best features from the Kindle and Sony Ebook reader models that just came out rolled into one and then some with the color screen, Android OS, and wifi. I will probably pick one up for sure.
manaox2 Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 I don't know enough about Android, could someone possibly make an app with android to allow pdf or doc files to be read?
