postjack Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 Hello! I'm thinking about buying a new laptop. I gave my old HP to my sister and it weighs 400 pounds. I want something light and tough (can I have both?) for around a grand or cheaper that will be used exclusively for internet and music on the go. There have been a lot of threads lately about laptops, so judging from those I'm either considering a Lenovo T series or (shudder) going back to macland with an iBook. Any other thoughts or recommendations appreciated.

Dusty Chalk Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 Tough: Toughbook and/or ... dagnabit, I forget the name of the competition...apparently Dell Latitude ATG is also ruggedized...I'll post again if I remember the name and/or find the ad of the other major company I was thinking of (it was from Micro Center). They're not cheap, though.

Ben Gramain Posted November 17, 2007 Report Posted November 17, 2007 Dell XPS M1330 with Completecare. (slightly more than 2Kg with standard cell) Dell Latitude D630 with Completecare. (2.5Kg with standard cell) I'm a Windows refugee. I came back from Macs. On OS X you have iTunes, iTunes, or iTunes. I didn't realise how limiting that would be. Plus while it all looks great the hardware is kinda ropey compared to similarly priced Lenovo, HP, Sony and Dell systems.
