Nanoha Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 A number of us have been contacting Hagerman over the past year or so regarding a SET headphone amp design. He said he'll do something about it independently. Oh snap. It's coming. Ultra excited. http://www.hagtech.com/castanet.html Quote

philodox Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 How many times you you type 'Oh snap' in one day? Quote
philodox Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Looking closer at it... kit for $99... uses 6H30. I have 4 6H30's that I'm not using. Could this circuit be balanced if you bought two kits? Quote

Could this circuit be balanced if you bought two kits? Its a kit/2: meaning it only includes the parts that you cannot get readily off the shelf. With all those transformers, I bet this ends up totaling about $400ish for a stereo amp. Quote

n_maher Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 I'm with JB, I can't imagine the half-kit containing much at $99, certainly none of the trafos. In fact it's sort of weird that he's referring to it as a half kit, I'm surprised he isn't making it a half-box like the Cornet. That'd actually be a decent deal at $99. Quote
Nanoha Posted November 5, 2007 Author Report Posted November 5, 2007 No, Hagerman's 1/2 kits aren't actually anything close to half of what you need. This amp is supposed to cost hundreds to build. I wouldn't be surprised if the kit only contains the boards, chassis, and manual. That is usually what his 1/2 kits entail. Quote

You are correct, the half/kit nomenclature is somewhat of a misnomer since it's usually not much more than the pcb. And knowing that I'd have a hard time shelling out $99 for a pcb but when he includes a chassis he usually doesn't call it a half/kit, like I mentioned above. Only time will tell and it's definitely worth watching and not speculating further. Quote

Nanoha Posted November 5, 2007 Author Report Posted November 5, 2007 Haha I guess it's because I attended a school where "oh snap" and "oh shiiiii-" were the most common phrases for expressing realization, recognition, surprise, acknowledgment, and/or appreciation. Quote
