kelvinz
That would be completely amp dependent. With a great amp, the 650 is great, otherwise, it's ok True however I do have a B22 which to my ears is one of the best amps overall. Is Penger's "Headroom Ultra Desktop Amp/DAC" that much better? I've never been a huge fan of the 650's however I did hear a local member's on a vinyl rig with a headphone amp whose make eludes me now, but it sounded completely different than my pair and in most aspects better. swt61
True however I do have a B22 which to my ears is one of the best amps overall. Is Penger's "Headroom Ultra Desktop Amp/DAC" that much better? I think when you reach this level of amplification it's more about different flavors than better or worse. It's more about picking the amp that best fits your overall system, or your taste. At this level I think most amps are going to be pretty resolving and accurate. The β22 is very neutral, which for me works very well.

penger
what about your 650's do you like better over the ESW10JPN? I find myself liking my ESW9A's more than my 650's At the time, I found the HD650's more comfortable than the ESW10's. I now have an M^3 instead of the Headroom amp, and the gain 11 (I think) on an amp with a stepped attenuator makes it hard to really get the volume I want out of the ESW10's. Unamped, the 10's clearly beat the 650's but on the M^3, I find I can listen longer using 650's which means to me, more enjoyment. Hope that helps? boomana
thought you decided you liked them? I do like them quite a bit. I liked them enough at CanJam to give them a serious try, but the deal is that I have too many headphones. I'm already going to sell the 600s, and maybe the esw10s. My goal was always to have One killer estat rig: O2 One killer dynamic rig: R10 One or two fun phones: the recently acquired HF2s and 225 cover that, and they're keepers One killer portable: JH13 One gym phone: UE11 Though it feels really strange to kick out such a wonderful headphone, it's the only one I can see going. I think I secretly wished they could replace my R10s, and I could convince myself to sell them, but they don't. There's just no room for HD800s, and at $1400, I'd rather buy music or fund some adventure someplace. I'm going to give it one more week.
