DigiPete Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Well its done K701 recabled with Mogami 2534 Neglex Copper Quad Mic Cable. Nate had a supply of it, along with the black 3/16" Nylon Multifilament techflex, so I asked him if he could strip the jacket and shield off the Mogami, and feed it through the techflex, which he graciously did Here are some pics (some not so good) of the job: Stock cable Mogami laid into the K701 frame Preparing the 4-pin XLR end of the cable A happy ending On the other ear phone there are two small wires which I have not replaced, but I may leave them for now.
n_maher Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Nice job Pete! How do they sound compared to stock?
DigiPete Posted October 27, 2007 Author Report Posted October 27, 2007 A bit more extended in the highs but smoother. Did not really listen to the stock cable much. Of course I am comparing the single ended stock cable, to the balanced mogami cable, so not all apples to apples. Decided to stick with single entry, as it is easier (does not tug at you as much) when I move around.
DigiPete Posted October 30, 2007 Author Report Posted October 30, 2007 The new k701pair are definitely brighter than my old recabled K701. Must be lack of driver/cable break in... We'll see how they compare after 200 more hours of break in.
philodox Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 You totally need 5,000,457 hours of burn in on those K701s. Or at least, that's what I hear. Nice recable job though!
DigiPete Posted October 30, 2007 Author Report Posted October 30, 2007 not really... The old pair probably have about 1000 hours total, and are tamer/smoother in the highs. Part of it is the tinnitus flaring up in the right ear, injecting some HF noise into the signal
DigiPete Posted October 30, 2007 Author Report Posted October 30, 2007 Part of it is the tinnitus flaring up in the right ear, injecting some HF noise into the signal Nope!! Just put on the old pair... wow! Definitely smooth in the highs, not bright and more bass. Hope the new ones get to sound like the old ones....
