deepak Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Is anyone else getting their fool head blown away by how sweet this is? Though the game is raping my laptop...
deepak Posted October 11, 2007 Author Report Posted October 11, 2007 maybe you should tell it that no means no. One does not simply communicate with Portal
Chekhonte Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 I just got he orange box for my 360 today and have been playing the story mode of HL2. I had it for the original xbox but never beat it. It looks much better on the 360. I'm going to save portle till I'm stoned sometime.
Chekhonte Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 I just beat HL2 and am blown away. I didn't like the first two levels when I played it the first time 3 years ago. I stuck through it and am glad that I did. The final levels where amazing. I'm not hooked on the story of HL2. I think I'll try and beat episode 1 tomorrow.
elnero Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 Just reading this as I'm installing Orange Box.
ojnihs Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 fuck this is available for PS3? we may be in trouble. i'm really curious about TF2 as well
elnero Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 Just played TF2 for the first time, it's a blast!!!
Chekhonte Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 fuck this is available for PS3? we may be in trouble. i'm really curious about TF2 as well I remember reading an interview of the lead programer from valve and he talked about how the PS3 is a huge pain in the ass to program for. He really laid into sony for using technology that's expensive, untested and offers no long term benefits over older technology. It was sad to hear, I read it only a month after I bought a PS3. They're apparently having trouble getting HL orange box to run smoothly on the PS3.

They're apparently having trouble getting HL orange box to run smoothly on the PS3. From interviews I've seen developers who worked on the PS2 think it's fine. Personally I don't trust Valve's opinion on the matter as the comments from their people always seem to be pushing an agenda of some sort. From a computer architecture point of view the PS3 is less radical than the PS2 was; it's only really the Cell chip that adds a degree of complexity. I'd take Valve's comments more seriously if id's John Carmack or Epic's Clifford Bleszinski put the boot in. Technically John Carmack has already said the PS3 is a pain to develop for but felt it did have some advantages when it came to performance.
Chekhonte Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 one thing I've forgot to mention to anybody that hasn't played HL2is that it's a terrific headphone game. The audio is compressed but it is used to great effect and it's more immersive when playing it with headphones.
deepak Posted October 16, 2007 Author Report Posted October 16, 2007 I think you'll really enjoy Episode 2. I like wide open environments so it really satisfied in that sense. Episode 1 was "ok".

I agree that episode 1 wasn't very good. I started episode 2 last night but am not very far yet. I'm hoping it's good but from what I read it's also very short. The only think I've noticed so far that I like is that the flashlight is no longer connected to the aux power for sprinting and air.
Chekhonte Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 I just beat portal and had some of the most fun I've had playing a game in a long while. Even though it's only about 3 hours long I would have payed the full 60 bucks just for it. the cake song at the end well...uh...took the cake for me.
Fred333 Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 I found it to be a very fun game too. Very challenging too the physics involved.
laxx Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 I had fun playing it. Such a shame it's so short though.
maschuu Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 I had fun playing it. Such a shame it's so short though. yeah, it really is shame. but i do hope that there will be new levels by the community soon...
Patu Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 I played it through and liked it very much. Too bad it was so short. The ending was great. Very recommended PC game definitely. What I liked most was the background story it had. It reminded me of the movie Cube ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0123755/ ). Anyone seen this movie and have same thoughts?

Cube Zero and Hypercube are worth watching as well (though not nearly as good).

Spectator Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 So how about TF2? It is okay. The variety of maps is lacking. The respawn time is long. The game is still fun.
laxx Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 I wanted to pick it up really badly, but with my new job, I just don't have time for it. =[
jinp6301 Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 So how much processing power does HL2 need to play decent? I'm downloading it right now. I wanted to play it for a long time, just didnt have the computer for it
