deepak Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 I find the built in headphone amp in my E-MU0404USB is really lacking compared to my M^3. So I've been thinking about getting the Mini^3. Or I'll entertain other amps in its price range.
thrice Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 Well, I just got a pair of HD580s the other day and I found that the Mini3 drove it just fine...not as well as a full sized amp could do mind you, but it got the job done. I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet, but I'll listen a little more tonight. Certainly the 580s sound much better from by Beta, but that's hardly a fair comparison to a portable. i would think that any portable amp that uses a 9V PS or higher would be a good choice for higher impedance headphones...although I bet Justin's new Pico would drive the hell out of them as well. That little amp packs one hell of a punch.... can't wait to get mine
PFKMan23 Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 bah.... You guys are killing me.. I need to decide what I want to do in the interm.
n_maher Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 Yup, it'll do the job as well as any other 9V portable. You might have a look around for a 2x9V portable PIMETA if you can find one and actually I might have something at home that would work for you cheap. Shoot me a PM if interested.

Cool Nate I'll send you a message soon. And I'm not looking for something to rival or best my M^3, just something better than the integrated amp on that sound card.

Are you an MoT...FOUL FOUL I Cry! Brand him, burn him, begone with your douchebagery Yeah actually a PIMETA with 2 x 9V power would be great. The PiMETA is still a great little amp.
JBLoudG20 Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 Deepak, if you want to try the mini, let me know you can borrow mine.
postjack Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 nate is a total MOT. i bought some speaker wire from him, and he made me pay what he paid for the wire and the connectors, AND pay for shipping. So basically the only thing I got for free from him was the labor (terminating the wire and attaching the locking banana plugs and heatshrinking them so they look all nice), his additional time spent boxing up the wire and taking it to the post office, and his patient, friendly, and professional advice.

boomana Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 I like my funky orange light Rockhopper mini3 with the 600s, but not so much with the 650s. I got used to the way the 650 bass sounds with my home amp, and it's hard to hear it lose that nice tight attack.
deepak Posted October 5, 2007 Author Report Posted October 5, 2007 bah.... You guys are killing me.. I need to decide what I want to do in the interm. Fess up PFK whats going on in that head of yours Deepak, if you want to try the mini, let me know you can borrow mine. Thanks man, I'll PM you if I decide to do that.
n_maher Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 Are you an MoT...FOUL FOUL I Cry! Brand him, burn him, begone with your douchebagery Yeah, I totally hose people on the deals I give them.
thrice Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 dude, nate is such a scam artist. there was NO FUCKING SNAKE OIL AT ALL, WHAT A RIP OFF!! LOL.
deepak Posted October 5, 2007 Author Report Posted October 5, 2007 Dudes if I buy a Mini^3 from one of you, can I get a custom gain switch installed so that the amp is a unique 1/1 and I can later sell it for way more than it's worth?

n_maher Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 No, but I can make a Rockhopper Mini3 with BLUE LEDs instead of orange. You f'ing scam artist! Can I get a blue/red/green LED on my amp/power supply? NO! What's wrong with orange?
grawk Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 No, but I can make a Rockhopper Mini3 with BLUE LEDs instead of orange. Everyone would know it was counterfeit rockhopper
thrice Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 You f'ing scam artist! You got me...all of the Mini3's I sell are actually Boostaroos put into Hammond cases.
Upstateguy Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Quote from: Rockhopper Audio FAQ What's wrong with orange?
philodox Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Orange is a nice change. I like amber with tube amps, but that would look nice as well. With solid state my general rule is red on black or green on silver. Blue just screams 'gadget' to me rather than hi-fi. That said, my power conditioner has a blue LED and my CD player has a blue display.
Salt Peanuts Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 So Deepak, are you going to get a mini3?
deepak Posted October 11, 2007 Author Report Posted October 11, 2007 So Deepak, are you going to get a mini3? I'm not, I took the first pro-active steps towards getting my real amplification for my main system sorted out. So I'm going to see that through to the end first.

deepak Posted October 11, 2007 Author Report Posted October 11, 2007 What are you getting, if you can share the info? I'm going to keep it on the down-low until it all goes through
