It plays just like Halo 2 (mostly), so that's either a good or bad thing depending on how you feel about the series as a whole. I personally like the mechanics, which while aren't the most innovative, feels fluid. I think the gameplay differences will only be appreciated by veteran Halo players, especially if you play multiplayer alot.

Yeah that's about how I feel. I got a copy on sunday and had very low expectations going into it because I didn't like much about halo 2. I played through co-op campaign with a friend over the past couple of days and was very impressed with how well it was put together compared to H2. Most of the levels in campaign are amalgamations of halo 1 levels and it works out well and I had a great fucking time.

It's awesome.

But why the hell can't split screen coop be in full HD?

yeah no lie. I've read, although it's probably false, that you can change the split screen to a vertical split ala halo 2 and it will be in full high def. I haven't found out how to do this though.

A friend brought over his 360 on the weekend and we played it a bit. I was more impressed by Bioshock and especially by Gears of War... though Halo 3 was pretty fun too. :)

Halo 3 is fucking amazing. Online co-op campaign with up to four people is the shit!

Online multiplayer is of course much like Halo 2, but what else can you change? Solid matchmaking and net code (as much as there can be a for a p2p environment) that is pretty much the gold standard for console games. Every other multiplayer shooter I play reminds me how polished Bungie's engine is.
