postjack Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 crap, that sounds really good. i don't have no money right now though. I am about to enter a selling phase though, I can feel it coming on. I've accumulated too much. as for the V3, I've thinking about getting Alex to balanced my W5000 with the new wire.
philodox Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 I'm really tempted to jump in and be the first to mod the shit out of 'em and make 'em pretty... But I'm too broke at the moment.
boomana Posted September 25, 2007 Author Report Posted September 25, 2007 I know, Gene's report does sound good. He owns or has owned all the mentioned headphones, plus a slew of others. Also, I have never known him to be prone to exaggeration or new toy syndrome. He'll say nothing at all until he's sure. We've also shared similar opinions on other headphones (e.g., the Denons), so I trust his ears moreso than others' who opinions I may also respect. I'm very excited.
n_maher Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Can't say I blame you, I've been on a source rather than headphone binge lately.
Salt Peanuts Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Damn, that does sound really good. I wish I had the money. The looks wouldn't bother me (assuming they're build well and durable), I mean, look at my headphones, they're not exactly on the pretty side. LOL.
deepak Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Very nice impressions from Gene. Seems like a good idea to jump in this group buy if you're looking for new/more headphones since you're saving a pantload of money.
Nanoha Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Oh wow, seems like we might have a real winner here. How much is the system by the way?

boomana Posted September 25, 2007 Author Report Posted September 25, 2007 how much is the TakeT regularly? The story is that after this group buy, no one will be able to order directly, only through a distributor, so the cost is expected to rise significantly. I forget the estimated amount, but it was scary.
boomana Posted September 25, 2007 Author Report Posted September 25, 2007 BTW, Gene's will be at the Oct 27th Florida meet, so I'll get a preview...or a prelisten...before mine arrives, and since a few K1000 amps will be present, it will be a nice chance for a comparison. I think the new shipping dates are expected to be between 20-30 days from now.

philodox Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 I'm hoping to make CanJam and I know there will be a TakeT there now... Interested to see if my amp can drive them directly. Did you get the balanced version?
aerius Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 that good? Well, they basically took a Heil air motion transformer and stuffed it into a headphone. The Heil AMT, when used in speakers as a tweeter, is quite possibly the best tweeter I've ever heard.

Did you get the balanced version? There will be at least two, Gene's and mine. I think he's using an Accuphase source and amp right now. I'm going to to try it out with my F1 and Heed Obelisk and use whichever sounds best. I have no idea what source I'll have by CanJam time.
hYdrociTy Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Sell me your less than perfect k1000

I pulled Gene's set up from another thread: Accuphase DP-77 player through a Plinius M8 preamp and Accuphase A-20 power amp. Hydrocity: not a chance...at least not yet.
Salt Peanuts Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 Damn, I don't think anyone in the area is participating in the H2 group buy. Maybe someone in NY will have a pair by NYC meet, and maybe I'll have my amps by then so I can try them out there.

I have Ergo 2, and been wondering how its big brother sounds.
NotoriousBIG_PJ Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 Hmm if these do go up significantly in price then they would be a good investment. My amp should be able to drive them easily. I'm not convinced I would enjoy them though. And breaking them would be annoying. Biggie.

They were a rather special headphone, but I never got into it, and don't really remember it that well. They might; I don't know, you'd have to ask them.
hirsch Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 Speaking of Heil AMT, has anyone heard Ergo AMT? I have Ergo 2, and been wondering how its big brother sounds. Duggeh on the other forum has my old AMT. Decent headphone that could have been great with different amplification. Unfortunately, the Ergo amp left something to be desired, and their transformer for using power amps was unbearably bright. However, I've since learned that the transformer might not be needed, and it could be possible to hook the AMT directly to a power amp by removing the proprietary plug and using regular speaker connectors (see AKG K-1000). Whether or not that would fix the brightness (the transformer is used as a tweeter, after all) is another question.

I may have to try the recable/reterm option if another pair ever shows up on for sale again.
