DigiPete Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 I have a box of vinyl maybe 100 albums from the 70-80s someplace, along with a technics TT
ojnihs Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 why not sell the copy(ies) that you don't use? or do you use them all? edit: i realize that this is different if you have vinyl
postjack Posted September 17, 2007 Author Report Posted September 17, 2007 why not sell the copy(ies) that you don't use? or do you use them all? i might do this one day, but really it would be just a handful of easily available redbook CDs.
en480c4 Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Not an option for me as my copies of the standard Metallica discs are beat to hell and probably don't even play through at this point.

I have the regular CD version, a CD with bonus tracks, and of course on vinyl R.E.M. - Reckoning CD and LP Chantal Kreviazuk - What if it all means something? Regular CD and limited edition signed CD with extra booklet Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing Regular CD and limited edition 2 CD set U2 - Joshua Tree CD and LP, the LP sucks, at least my copy does. Led Zeppelin II CD & LP, my LP's worn to hell though, cracks & pops everywhere. The Nylons CD & LP There might be one or 2 more, but I'll have to search through all my albums to be sure.
postjack Posted September 17, 2007 Author Report Posted September 17, 2007 shit, forgot: Simple Minds - New Gold Dream 81-82-83-84 CD SACD Vinyl Marbled Vinyl, have this one matted and framed with the album cover hanging up in my den above the tv.
aerius Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Marbled Vinyl, have this one matted and framed with the album cover hanging up in my den above the tv. I keep meaning to pick up one of these just for fun, but anything other than plain black vinyl is stupid expensive where I am. I see some green and white LP's at the record stores every now and then, but they're always behind the glass display case and selling for $$$. I should start looking on the 'net one of these days.
mirumu Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 This is off the top of my head... Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells (Vinyl & CD) Mike Oldfield - Five Miles Out (Vinyl & CD) Superjesus - Sumo (CD & Special Edition CD with bonus disc) Superjesus - Jet Age (CD & Special Edition CD with bonus disc) Pink Floyd - The Wall (Vinyl & CD) Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (Vinyl & CD) Pink Floyd - Meddle (Vinyl & CD) Amaral - Estrella de Mar (CD & Limited Edition CD with bonus tracks) The B-52s - Wild Planet (Vinyl & CD) The B-52s - The B52's (Vinyl & CD) Betty Boo - Boomania (Vinyl & CD) Dire Straits - Dire Straits (Vinyl & CD) Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms (Vinyl & CD) Dire Straits - Love Over Gold (Vinyl & CD) Dire Straits - Communique (Vinyl & CD) Genesis - Genesis (Vinyl & CD) The Knife - Silent Shout (CD & Special Edition with bonus disc) Travelling Wilburys (Cassette & Special Edition CD) Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral (CD & SACD Limited Edition with bonus disc)
grawk Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 you really need to get the Japanese CBS CSCS 6042 version torrent? Animals is hands down the best floyd album. Oh, does Les Claypool doing it live count as animals, too
aerius Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 mirumu's list just reminded me, I actually still have cassettes lying around. Pearl Jam - Vs. & Ten CD and cassette Gn'R - Appetite for Destruction CD & cassette The Police - Regatta de Blanc CD & cassette, my cassette's worn to hell since I played it so many times in my youth Simon & Garfunkel - Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme CD & LP, a few pops on the LP, but it still sounds great
postjack Posted September 17, 2007 Author Report Posted September 17, 2007 I keep meaning to pick up one of these just for fun, but anything other than plain black vinyl is stupid expensive where I am. I see some green and white LP's at the record stores every now and then, but they're always behind the glass display case and selling for $$$. I should start looking on the 'net one of these days. When I bought it a year ago, these things were all over eBay. Its an old 80s pressing that looks really nice. Forgot: Ghostface Killah - Fishscale CD 180gx2 vinyl
mirumu Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Animals is hands down the best floyd album. Agreed, Animals is definitely my favorite. Oh, and I just remembered I have more cassettes too. Most I had were vinyl rips but I do have a few genuine duplicates. Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes (Cassette and CD) Dire Straits - Communique (I have this on cassette as well as the aforementioned CD and vinyl) Dire Straits - On Every Street (cassette and CD)
grawk Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 in now possible way could it be available here. Since it's not, I won't thank you
grawk Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 All my old vinyl from high school was in my 69 vw bus which got towed when I was poor, and couldn't afford to pay to get it out. So they're long gone. Lost 200 or so records, and another 100 or so tapes. And my bicycle. The tapes weren't a big deal, the vinyl I miss. The covers would make great wall art I had the complete styx catalog, in first pressings.
postjack Posted September 17, 2007 Author Report Posted September 17, 2007 geez, i wasn't even thinking about cassettes that i later purchased as CDs. so add a couple more hundred to the list i'm not going to make. so you like never had a time in your life when you were drunk or high for a stretch and lost or damaged a ton of your music?
Dusty Chalk Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 This is going to be hard for me, as I grew up on vinyl and never got rid of any of it (I had over 2K records at last count), and replaced much of it on CD. Now I'm doing the same with SACD and DVD-A, but at anywhere near the same rate. And yes, that includes a truckload of Depeche Mode, New Order, Mike Oldfield, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, Rush, Yes, some Skinny Puppy (had mostly fallen for CD by then), Art of Noise, and so on.
Dusty Chalk Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Pink Flord - Dark Side of the Moon (MFSL, US, Japanese, English, Japanese SACD, and DVD-A burn of the Quad Master, oh, and does the bootleg of the live concert performance count) What's funny is I am not a fan of DSOTMYeah, but which MFSL version? I have both. And why do you have the Japanese SACD and not the domestic SACD? I mean, I understand the other way around, but not the way you did it. Do you have a bootleg of the Halloween concert at which Phish performed the whole thing, though? I'm guessing your response will be "multiple versions".
grawk Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Yeah, but which MFSL version? I have both. And why do you have the Japanese SACD and not the domestic SACD? I mean, I understand the other way around, but not the way you did it. Do you have a bootleg of the Halloween concert at which Phish performed the whole thing, though? I'm guessing your response will be "multiple versions". I had it, but it sucked, so I'm not sure I kept it. I may have the dats somewhere. None of the recordings of that show were good, nor was the performance As to which mfsl, the original release.
Dusty Chalk Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Yeah, I have to admit to being underwhelmed by their Remain in Light gig. Their original material I enjoy, but for some reason, don't dig their covers. Same as Gov't Mule. No idea why. Which reminds me: multiple Talking Heads stuff; also, NIN and Tori Amos. EDIT: Also: Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Gary Numan.
