Dusty Chalk Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 At 12:35 I booted the laptop with a Fedora 7 DVD in teh drive. It is now 12:51, and I am posting form my shiny new install, using wifi.Awesome.
JBLoudG20 Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 I really have no idea the point of posting that. But now you can check out my cool sig even more.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Your sig sucks, but the fact that you loaded linux, and the first thing you did was log on to Head-Case to brag about how fast the install was (and the fact itself that it was fast) is cool beyond words.
JBLoudG20 Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 I think you need japk to take a look at your funny bone, because its just an underdeveloped as your brain. The FIRST thing I did was compile the wireless drivers, and patch the kernel, but you apparantly knew that already.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 I think you need japk to take a look at your funny bone, because its just an underdeveloped as your brain.Well, I laughed at that, so it can't be too underdeveloped.
jinp6301 Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Ok, so my laptop died a couple of days ago so I need a decent laptop with long battery life ASAP. I dont play games much but I need a decent processor for programming and it needs to be CHEAP (Under $700?) Is dell the only choice? and no I dont want to get an apple right now

Is dell the only choice? and no I dont want to get an apple right now Hmm, what is your opinion of a long battery life? 5 hours? I personally don't know of any cheap laptops with exceptional stock battery life. I would however suggest getting a spare or larger capacity battery. That may free up some more options for you.

Nanoha Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Find a refurbished T40 and get an 8 cell battery. You get my Best Tip of the Day award.
grawk Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Find a refurbished T40 and get an 8 cell battery. I'd say X series instead.
Nanoha Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 I'd say X series instead. Light-weight awesomeness?
grawk Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Light-weight awesomeness? It's just more optimized for battery life.
Nanoha Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 It's just more optimized for battery life. Ah, I see. That is great.
jinp6301 Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 I was already looking at the refurbed levonos, but all the decent T series got sold and I think the small screen of the X series is gonna frustrate me.
jinp6301 Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Hows the R61 series for levonos? I'm and about those laptops. (Yes, I got a reason to use those smileys)
n_maher Posted November 11, 2007 Author Report Posted November 11, 2007 If you can stretch your budget to 800ish I think you can get a refurbed Macbook.
grawk Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 If you can stretch your budget to 800ish I think you can get a refurbed Macbook. Or a good used one
grawk Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 The R series is a monster. Huge, heavy, crappy battery. T or X. You can get an X with a 14" display, too.
jinp6301 Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 i went to circuit city, and they had a nice thinkpad R61i for like 30% off, around 700 with rebates. I needed the computer quickly so I just got this one. but vista is a piece of shit, slows down everything. Gotta go reformat to XP asap! (yes, I know linux is better)
JBLoudG20 Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 (yes, I know linux is better) Better how? There isn't a but and dry, this OS i s better than another. It's all about what works FOR YOU.
jinp6301 Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 i just said it so people dont go ZOMG WHY DONT YOU USE LINUX?!?!?! LINUX ROX MY SOX!!!1oneone but I like linux since it uses less system resources (well the way I configure it does)
jinp6301 Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 ugh, the battery life of this laptop sucks so much. I guess I'll have to upgrade to a 9 cell battery soon.
